It seems like there is a need. The only people I have to chat with are my old WoW friends. It would be nice to have a bit more comraderie that just random pugs who are not interested in even the most cursory of communication.
i really hope they do..im the same way none of my friends are consistently online plus i think it will help make better communities across the game, i know that they have no intention of making this a competitive e sportish game but it would be fun if there were some guild/clan rivalries and competition
It would be nice to see but I don't think we will have this anytime soon. There are many other things they are probably working on that has much higher priority.
I would love for a feature like this to be implemented. For me I enjoyed gaming because of the social aspect, its probably what kept me playing WoW for as lon as I did. This game could benifit in a lot of ways, especially in how it could create end game opportunities. It could be tied to many different aspects from Ladders to PVP to start and more complex ideas implemented from there. I personally think that using a Ladder system with clans would be amazing for both HC and SC.
There could be a negative impact as well though, mainly with public games, where it could be a lot harder to find public games that fit what it is you would like to run. Not a huge deal, personally I never play public games, just games with friends but I could see where it might have enough negative impact for Blizzard to not want to implement the feature.
I'm a "random pug who is not interested in even the most cursory of communication." Play the game, damnit! I noticed that the more people chat, the worse they play (obviously because they have to split focus and movements).
This is why a voice chat system should have been implemented from day 1.
As well as guild/clan support.

My two cents.
