id like to figure out which build to use for my barbarian ... i recently threw about $10 at the game so i could get some gold to buy some great gear for my barb ... i decided id make him my first paragon 100 toon ... right now hes only paragon 17 so i got some work ahead of me ...
but anyways i have a 250 million gold budget, though i would very much not like to have to spend all of it ... im looking for some advice on whether i should go WW or HOtA as im having a tough time deciding ...
i recently started playing WW i was tank gear/spec until recently only farming mp4 ... now as WW i can play decently on mp6 even though i bought my gear on about a 2mil budget before ... but like i said i grabbed about 250 million gold so i have some room now to spend...
i heard that HOtA is better at higher gear levels and also that WW is likely to get nerfed soon ...so wonder if its worth the investment. my goals for this is to be able to farm on the highest possible monster power especially where i can be efficent ...
so a few points about how i play:
I enjoy killing elites even though i know its not always so efficent.
i would love to be able to solo ubers and such ... i havent done many key runs myself yet but id like to be able to do so.
to go along with above point ..i plan on being able to farm keys up as well and such.
i like to loot items ... typically i loot anything thats not white or grey ... including blues which i either salvage or vendor ... i have also picked up all rares i find as well as pretty much all gold ... i may be slightly OCD in this ... but i feel the compulsive need to loot like i do >.>
i dont consider myself to be the best player but believe i can learn and perform
i play occassionally with my friend, a decently player but not the best ... he plays a CM wizard currently. while i dont mind lowering mp level to play with him though like i said i want to be able to operate just fine solo at the higher mp levels.
though im playing as WW right now i really dont mind chang... i know maintaining zerker at higher mp levels is pretty much essential, which is hard givin my compulsive looting. ...
i have an issue at current gear ... maintaining enough fury.... though im pretty sure this is just a result of my gear and not my playstyle as WW...
if possible to be efficent as such ... i love 2h barbs ... the feel behind using a 2hander is just awesome ... especially with cleave!
I personally cannot help you, but this sort of information is almost exactly what I too am after. I hope you get some great help! Thanks for making this thread.
the stats needed for WW and HotA builds don't differ that much. its not like you re pigeonholing yourself into one role by buying items and that leaves you "stuck" with this build as it might be with some other classes in D3 (0sec dog WDs, relying on OWE passive as a monk etc)
both specs "require" critchance and critdamage for fury generation and damage output, the more the merrier
attackspeed helps by boosting the amount of ticks a tornado will do ( http://eu.battle.net/d3/en/forum/topic/4902400739 ) and will also help a HotA build by swinging the hammer faster and so on
before Ive always played WW for normal runs and switched to a "Hota/rend/overpower/butnoSprint" spec for Ubers, nowadays Im playing WW with HotA as the optional skill instead of warcry/rend/overpower. Some people play Hota with run like the wind sprint but I'm not a big fan of that
to your playstyle
like you said yourself, if you want to keep looting as you do now, you will lose your zerker many times and might wanna consider a spec without zerker or at least without the Thrive on Chaos rune.
if u havent, check this thread out http://www.diablofans.com/topic/92606-nerf-to-wotbtoc-what-are-us-barbs-going-to-do-now-new-build-to-tryout/
also good to fall back onto incase Blizzard goes ahead and nerves the Thrive on Chaos rune sometime in the future
if you want to play 2handed you will need a skorn, the only viable 2hander. Skorn-based barbs work very well with builds that utilize Rend and possibly the Bloodlust rune for it, dealing a ton of damage and healing you a lot aswell and again, Rend can be build into both WW and HoTA specs if u so desire
I can understand the urge to loot everything, I have the same thing with killing mobs, I hate leaving that one stray white mob with half hitpoints alive that eluded me and will almost always turn around and make sure I kill it and everything on the screen and check if anything dropped
I'm not trying to change your mind, by any means, go ahead and loot all you like,
but Ive also played the whole identify and salvage game for so long and it cost me quite an effort to quit that behaviour
but looting blue items and even yellows that u know will never roll anything to be worth using or selling, ive given up on that, i mean once u get to a certain magicfind/monsterpower level that will bascially fill up your inventory every 2 minutes. even only looting yellows becomes an annoyance when you know 99.9% of it will be trash, but that is your call to make
I'm basically with captaincha0s. The gear is pretty much the same between the two specs so you can pretty easily try both. HotA: Thunderstrike is probably more group-friendly than WW though since you can lock mobs down so people can nuke them more easily.

...and if you disagree with me, you're probably <insert random ad hominem attack here>.
I'm using a HOTA build where I've dropped into the fray for the one that does splash dmg on crit - i target the hardest mob and the surrounding ones just evaporate.
I just started playing a HotA build recently and find it fun. Nothing like smashing puny mobs and causing the champs to be stunned. if I have enough trash mobs I can keep those champs almost perma stunned and the crits keep the fury up for more hammer smashes. There are some difficult affixes tho, like fire chain. Those guys move way too much for me to have them all stunned.
I also need to start swapping out some of my old magic find gear for CHC, CHD and attack speed gear, which should allow me to kill more efficiently.
You can see my build here (it's nothing special): Battle.net
I use Battle Rage : Into the Fray to keep that fury generating, which allows me to keep dropping the hammer!
I can farm MP6 easily with this setup and my current gear, but need a few upgrades so I can move to a higher MP. My friend got an amulet that I am gonna talk him out of. It'll give me another 16k damage and 2k life, which will be awesome!

this si true ... and likely i will get PO'ed filling up inv so much that ill stop looting everything after i get to that point in the mf/gf but right now im only at paragon 17 so yeah lol ... not quite there yet... with monster power plus nephalim stacks im only at around 230 mf i think currently
could anyone recommend a gear list for these specs by chance?
