I made a witch doctor at release and it bugged me that I had to kite to kill (due to low damage). I make a barb and am enjoying it by a long shot but I hit the huge wall in Act2 pre-1.03 and now I still can't beat act2 post-1.03.
My stats look fine but I keep dying to all elites that have Shielding(can't heal) or Molten(too much moving) or Nightmarish(chain fear)---- (which is 80% of them)
I'm running a standard tanking build, as much as I wish to go 2hander I just don't have the gold for it.
I geared myself to have a balance of Strength(1048) and Vitality(887).
The only way I can seem to do this is on my DH but I dislike it, not being able to do 2hander and play my barbarian is making me dislike this game. Help me, I've no clue what to do.
(I've followed Kripp on how to gear a barbarian but I must be doing something wrong.
Dps is too low, vit as well. What I understand is to be ok you need somewhere around 12k dps, and that is with a one handed weapon without wrath of the berserker.
HP should be 50k to be good (40k is ok though). Resists are ok, to do better they should be around 1000+ (with shout)
Things that seem ok: armor/loh. Though more than 1200 would be preferred.
Block chance is awful: items to check on (helm of command, justice lantern, a shield with high block rate (25%+). A decent block rate is 30%, a good one is 40%+. Having a good block chance is basic for any barb.
Checked the skill set, it should do the trick. The problem definitely is the gear setup.
Note: these stats are for clearing inferno (solo play). Group play should require even lower stats.
resists are too low, you want 800 (minimum) to 950
your armor is way too high, sacrifice whatever is pushing you over 9k
dps is way, way too low
block is way, way, way too low
in short, you just need better gear because something like a high block stormshield would solve all your non-dps problems.
even with all that you still gotta kite if you watch krip stream he did budget barb but he kite alot, you will need tons of gear to just steam roll with anything, barb not good at farming as dh and wizard so you should have stuck with dh and geared your barb up.
Dunno why people are saying you need more resists. Your resists are fine through Act IV if you play smart. I did it with resists similar to that, but maybe a little higher.
Your health seems really low. You didn't post health numbers, only vitality, and based on that it seems you'd want more. You want enough health so that your Revenge hits heal for more, since it's based on total health.
Your damage is also really low. You didn't post your weapon stats, but see if you can't get one with more damage. Also try to get some crit% and crit damage if you can manage it without sacrificing survivability.
Your armor and life on hit are fine.
Something I'm a personal fan of is life regeneration. You said you had trouble with sustain while fighting packs that you can't actively hit all the time. Well, life regeneration has 100% uptime. You don't need to hit a guy to get its benefit. Maybe give that a shot if you can manage it.
I agree with Aldrek on this one. Your vitality seems pretty low. I'd work on getting that up to the lower end 1000 range or % life items. Also life regeneration items are insanely cheap, if you swap out an all resistance item for life regen plus the resistance you know you need you should find some smoking deals.
Yeah, then that weapon.... seems really low for where you're at. You should be able to find an upgrade for a marginal price.
My stats:
10,241 Armor
8235 Damage
872 Physical Resistance
705 Cold
705 Fire
705 Lightning
802 Poison
847 Holy/Arcane
987 Life on Hit
15% Block (3706-4706)
15% Dodge

I did complete inferno with lower stats then yours and my build back then was:

hint: take Juggernaut as passive and all CCs will heal you and last shorter.
