Tank Design:
{Note this is for group tank not solo, you want to have everything focus in on you, so having a Monk ally to use their vortex ability to assist you while your Range DPS attack from a far}
You're goal is not to be the damage dealing, but return damage. Since most tank barbs want to be roughly 10k to move onto act 2. Instead of you focusing on damage, you absorb damage like a tank and focus on your Thorns to return damage.
The goal of this build is to have Health at max if you cant, at lease 70k or higher {If that is possible}
Next you will be over 1k Resistance All.
You want your Thorns from items to be at lease 15k or higher + 50% bonus from Passive + 50% damage return to creatures when you use IP with Rune for Contempt for Weakness.
Game Play:
If you don't have a monk to vortex guys in, you start every fight.
Leap in to gain that bonus 300% armor as that is what you rune for.
Next you focus on Cleave. I chose cleave for that super slow of 80%. The goal is to keep all creatures in front of you and keep them slowed so they cant get away from you (helps Wizards and DH a lot when you have elites that are Fast Afflix).
For that huge pack of monsters, use your Right Click that is set for IP with 50% damage returned to them.
If anything runs from you, such as right at your DPS behind your or to do right after leap, Use Threatening Shout with Rune for Demoralize to pull them all back to you. The goal is and always will be to hold them on you and all damage they deal to return back at them.
This build kind of has a chance in the patch 1.0.3 with the damage nerf from act 2-4 inferno.
Also, if possible, try to reach 800-1000 Life on Hit. While Cleave will help keep you up while you don't have Revenge activated.
might be, don't see the benfit thought. with a decent weapon you can probably output more damage (specially since mobs need to hit you for thorns to have an affect) and i don't think thorn gear will be any cheaper since you still need ra and high vit + high thorns
my suggestion, if you fancy it try it and see if you have fun
as from a tanking point of view thorns does not add any benefit in a group since others are doing the damage or mobs are running after them so you would need more control then just the slow from cleave
