Yeah, I know, I'm late to the party. There's enough gear flying around on the AH that being able to farm the Butcher isn't as big a deal as it used to be, but it's still farther than I was able to progress before I put this build together. If you're looking for something that's endgame viable, this probably isn't it. If you're looking for something to get you by while you farm up the money for a proper Sword-and-Board build, though, this will probably do much better for you than whatever got you through Hell.
I'm currently using this build with a slow 2-handed mace - traditional Frenzy/Revenge mousebinds would likely be recommended for quicker, one-handed weapons.
Before I started Inferno with this character, I was sitting at about 30k Life, 6500 Armor, 300 Resists (200 unbuffed) and 14k DPS. That let me farm up through the Skeleton King once I adjusted to the difficulty spike. The stats in the pic are what I have now, after getting a couple much-needed upgrades from the AH and farming the Butcher a few times (on a related note, IAS is still the best DPS stat in the game by far, no matter how slow your weapon is).
And my follower's stats (for the love of God, people, gear up your followers if you solo a lot):
So yeah, you might have a couple questions. Just let me state up front that you absolutely need a 900+ DPS weapon for this to work. Which sounds ridiculous, but 2-handers in that range are well below a million gold on the AH now.
SRSLY, WTF?
Use Warcry on cooldown to aid Rage generation. Open every fight with Leap and re-use it on cooldown, as you need to keep Iron Impact up as much as possible. For regular white trash mobs, simply rotate Cleave-Cleave-Hammer again and again. You must switch targets in such a way that will score killshots with the Hammer, but rarely with Cleave. If your DPS is sufficient, you should be able to stunlock your way through entire groups once you get the hang of the timing (though that will take some practice). If things get ugly, drop an Earthquake.
Harder fights are, ironically, easier. Warcry, Leap, (Cleave if you need rage,) Wrath, Earthquake. Stand right in the middle of that Earthquake (and that plague pool and those fire chains) like a boss and spam Cleave and Hammer until everything around you falls down. Even with the massive Inferno nerf, 5%+ Life Steal will usually return enough life that you are practically invulnerable for eight full seconds. It should still let you stand toe-to-toe with anyone once EQ wears off and only WotB still up, but you will actually have to move out of fire in that case. If anything's still alive once WotB wears off (really only Skeletal Elvis or the Butcher), kite them around until your nukes are off cooldown. Repeat.
SO YEAH
Like I said before, I don't know how viable this build really is for Inferno, and I'm certainly not going to claim to be the first person to progress using WotB+EQ. But combining them with Life Steal has allowed me to do so without constant kamikaze runs, and without making the dreaded switch to shield. Try it out if you'd like and (most importantly) can get the weapon for cheap
