Hey guys, I finally bought an electric guitar and I love the looks, sound, and its certainly a quality guitar. But I am pretty sure its last years model and I was just curious if i got a good deal. I seem to ahve done pretty decent because i bought it at a store for $379.99 when it was originally a $479.99 guitar but they wanted to get rid of the older stuff.
the guitar is a Ibanez SZ320EX i do believe, and it looks exactly like this one...

I was either going to go with that or the new Ibanez art300

It's purely opinion related, but I hate guitars that look like that. I personally prefer flying V's/Z's over any other guitar model.
Those look good for what they are, though.

Seems like you got a good deal. 100$ off just for not being top of the line brand new.

Yeah I'd say good deal. Ibanez are good guitars.

I don't know much about guitar brands, but I do know that one looks beautiful, much better than the other one you were thinking about

I've never gotten into Ibanez until recently.
I have been a big fan of Steve Vai's work with them tho.
Loving my new JEM! (don't have any current pics of mine yet)

The swirling on mine is a lot different from this one! But yet none of these look exactly the same. lol
I will probably get around to it this weekend when I go to band practice.

If I had $379 dollars to buy a guitar with I'd get an Epiphone 335 some kind of model. But 335's are my guitars of choice. It's a nice guitar but I dont know if I would have paid $379 for it. $479 would have been rediculous to pay. Like I said it's a nice guitar but just not what I would have spent my money on. But man, I just read some of those reviews and the reviews themselves are giving it alot of credit for the price. The one guy said he has had fenders, gibsons, epiphones, and for the stuff he played, i believe just rock/metal, it was hands down one of the best. So yeah I dont think you paid to much at $379 and its a sweet looking guitar. I've just never been into Ibanez. What kind of music do you play?

I think you'll find Ibanez guitars have really nice action and more narrow of necks which can be nice for fretting, but I've found occasionally its awkward doing really heavy bends. I learned how to play on an Ibanez bass, and it definately did the trick.
The main thing for guitars is that it carries a good signal and has the sound and action you like.
Mephisto mentioned the 'Flying V' which is really popular for metal. With metal quite often your going to want to hit extremely high notes and the body shape makes doing that really easy. Which really helps given how complex and fast some metal lines can be.
For blues players tend to prefer guitars like the 'Stratocaster' or 'Les Paul' (you can see a les paul in Johnny_Death's avatar), I'm guessing because of a clear tone and versatility, though I'm not entirely sure. Interestingly the guitar you picked looks similar in shape to a strato, and the other to a les paul :P, though the necks are different.
Look at what your idols play to get an idea of what types of guitars are most suitable.
But I'm guessing the one you got will be really good for learning, and by not buying this years model you probably got much better bang for your buck.

The SZ you have got is a great guitar I myself am a chronic devotee of Ibanez I have a GRG121, RG 321M, JEM7VH and an old GRG370DX Hope you enjoy your guitar!
Most of the ibanez guitars have good pick-ups and great action (low) and are a dream to play my JEM is a real beaut!!!
