-Mephisto's Lament-
03-18-2009, 11:40 AM
Why would I pay to fly over there only to watch Metallica, since the rest of the bands are laughable? I don't have the cash..and even if I did, I wouldn't go 100 miles to see that lineup, nevertheless go on an intercontinental flight.

Freedom Call
Silent Force
Sonata Arctica
Kamelot
All that I quoted are awesome. Silent Force is way underrated :( hopefully they gain more popularity in their next album. Although, I don't neccesarily like many of their songs (2 songs I like), other than the songs I like which are great (Death Comes In Disguise, Iron Hand), the others are still pretty good, just not good enough for me to download and listen to.

I'll most likely not be going this Summer either. :|
I'm probably going to visit my Dad in NJ and then head to Massachusetts for the remainder of the Summer.
He goes a lot more than I do. He has two houses there and one is rented out as a Vacation spot.

I actually didn't go with the intention of seeing them. They showed up and played a few songs at the club my friends and I were at in Whistler. It was also kinda before they were big. It was a small club, and you could literally stand in front of the stage, reach out and touch Fergie.

Concerts make me nervous. But the last one I think I actually went to was Radiohead. I saw Elliott Smith's last live performance before he killed himself. It was sad. He played really crappy and he aborted several songs and eventually he just walked off stage and he seemed kind of embarrassed. Luckily I had seen him about four years before when he had his full band and was promoting Figure 8 at the time. He was freaking glorious back then.
Not many other concerts I went to are really worth mentioning.

The GZA from wu-tang clan in 2008 Latvia
Nice...
@ the OP: Nice list you got there.
I personally seen only 1 concert live... It was Roger Waters from the Pink Floyd, he did a tour 2 years ago and he had a show in Tel Aviv in Israel, but then my father which was the secretary general of the village we live in which is called the oasis of peace which is consisted of Jews and Arabs living together, sent him a letter telling him about the place and about how it wont be so smart to make a show in tel aviv when israel is building a crazy wall between them and some of the arab terretories, and roger waters was the one who wrote The Wall... etc...
Anyway he changed the show's location to my village! they built a huge thing just under our hill in the field and then at the show's night it ws crazy... 50 thousand people, crazy show, best music.
It was something like this...

I worked with his niece Jill Fogerty at a coffee shop in the late 80's in Berkeley, she looked a lot like him in complexion and facial features. She was really nice.

Just saw Our Lady Peace, Theory of a Deadman, Blue Rodeo, and Hedly live on saturday.
OLP kicked ass, basically the other 3 bands were opening for them.
Theory did really well too, was pretty impressed.
Even Blue Rodeo was tolerable.
But Hedly, oooooooh Hedly.
Never realized just how much I hated that band, till I saw them live.
Really wish we could get some metal bands out here though...

Here's a video from roger waters' concert near the village that i live in (Neve shalom / Wahat Al Salam).
I was closer to the stage than this camera guy and more in the center... the show was crazy, 50k people singing and smoking weed...
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=x1Z-BstzN-E&feature=related
You can see in the related links, all the videos that have "Neve Shalom" or just Israel in their names are from this concert.
Btw they played the whole dark side of the moon album, and songs from the wall and a few others like sheep and set the controls to the heart of the sun..

Yes, yes, that was missing. Damn it why do I always forget the caged dancers! :D
For a few other posts re: Metallica, personally I never got into them because of their name. I was like 15 or 16 when they first showed up on the scene. Megadeath appeared around the same time they did too. They were like the first bands that came out with names that sounded more like nemesis in a Godzilla flick than the name of a band. :D Mentally I just couldn't get into their music because every time someone said either one ruled all I could think was GODZILLA vs. METALLICA and MEGADEATH!
OK I know that was a weird reason for not listening to themhttp://i243.photobucket.com/albums/ff205/Vegas-Rage/confused.gif

Lmao, I could tell you it's a weird reason, but... I do the same thing. Every time there's a band called something that just sounds like a dude pooping out his intestines rather than a bandname, I just go "urgh" and refuse to try it.
Most of the time, I 'm right too, the bands that have names like that suck ass, but a few times it turns out I'm wrong when I finally do hear it, and then I'm like "fuck, I coulda known this cool band earlier, why'd they have to have such a stupid name? Are they trying to piss me off?"
