Ska

Okay, I searched the music forum here and saw nothing on ska. So of course, after feeling depressed about not seeing it on hear, I slit my wrists a bit, then decided to post on here, to see if anyone else here enjoys this blissful music, and if so - which bands?

The first ska band I truely began to listen to was Mustard Plug, and it was when I was a wee tyke. I started listening to it about 8 years ago (basically turn of the century, y'know?), and then a few years ago I found out about Streetlight Manifesto (great band imo), Less than jake and Reel Big Fish. Reel big Fish is pretty good imo, but I'm not much of a "Less than Jake" fan.

Also, liking the french language and the odd piece of french music, I decided to look around for french ska and found "Les Cam?l?ons", and their music is great as well. Sadly I can't get one of their CDs. =(

What does ska mean, anyway? I know a guy who listens to ska-punk but I have no idea what is meant there.

Ska is (usually) up beat punk music with lots of brass instrument use in there. Its really catchy and tends to make people dance, or at least from my experience, haha.

Island Ska? Could you show me an example, afraid I've never heard of it before, sounds itneresting though.

I've listened to a bit of sublime. I think some of them are ska, but its very light though. They're a good band still though. Been a while since I've actually listened to them o.o

Well, off the top of my head the only ska band I know is illScarlett. Which according to Wikipedia is ska-punk.

I think Cake qualifies as ska. Everyone loves Cake.

Jesus, Sublime! Okay thanks WInston, I totally clued out there for a while, LOL. Yeah a few songs of there I do listen to, Wrong Way and Date Rape. Not great actually songs, but they do make me laugh every once and a while.

Sublime is a great band.


I remember when Cake became hot they had a demo of one of their songs on a PS2 Demo disk.
Can't remember the name of the song tho.
