For a while now I've been looking for a heavy metal album that can even come close to the epicness of Ashes of the Wake and I just can't:confused:. Help me.

Hard metal or softish metal?
I'll suggest both.
Metallica, Dimmu Borgir, Burning Point, Drowning Pool, Pantera, Marilyn Manson, Nile.

Take your pick.

P.S. I listened to Ashes of the Wake. They arn't very good. Any of the above owns them :D

Ashes of the Wake isn't the name of the band. The band he's on about are Lamb of God.

I agree it is one solid album. LoG are definitly at the peak of their particular style. If you want to find something that is as good or better, you may need to stray away from what you hear from LoG and try to digest some other bands that sound nothing like them.

Well whatever, they still are quite mediocre. If that's their peak then I say EH to them.

Ride the Lightning ftw!

LOL..OMG THE FUNNY IS UNBEARABLE!!!!

Then I noticed that you're not joking, and I serioused the fuck up. That album seriously can't even come close to being an "epic" metal album. It's not even in the top 100, honestly. Master of Puppets, Ride the Lightning, Reign in Blood, Souls of Black, Rust in Peace, Armada..For fuck's sake, take your pick.

"Scissor Fuck Paper Doll" http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ohrraWlmDRQ&feature=related

"The Burning Halo" http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=h4HgEkgF34E

To say that it is not in the top 10 let alone the top 100 is metal blasphemy.
Ashes of the Wake:
Lyrics: 8/10
Vocals: 9/10
Guitar: 9.5/10
Drums:10/10

Reign in Blood:
Lyrics:7.5/10 (somewhat cliche at times)
Vocals:6/10 (speed jabbering ruins it)
Guitar:7/10 (honestly overrated)
Drums:4/10 (its just there to keep the beat)(or the lack there of)

Megadeth and Metallica are good but they aren't nearly as heavy.

I Haven't heard too many Testament songs but what I have heard does not stack up.

Ashes of the Wake is an awesome album and it is indeed one of the best Metal albums out there right now.

Ashes of the Wake is pretty sweet, but my favorite of their bunch is New American Gospel, and their new album Wrath goes back to the basics - raw and whatnot. But if you're looking for a heavy album all the same, listen to Pantera's Far Beyond Driven; the heaviness in that album can't be touched. A few other pretty up there albums are Opeth's Blackwater Park, Meshuggah's Catch 33 and obZen, and a Life Once Lost's always kept my interest with Hunter. Cheers! Good listenin'.

First thing that came to mind as topping Ashes was "Seven Dust", LoG sounds seriously 80's, maybe because I grew up then and now try to avoid much of the music from the era, heard that stuff too many times.

Dream Theater is epic yes but not Epic metal. The band I hear DT getting compared to the most is one of my fav's, RUSH. They too are epic but I would not classify them as heavy metal. IMO

Metal Blasphemy? Look, take everything I will say positively, don't think I'm flaming or overreacting or something..if anything, I'm underreacting.

A Metal Elitist would literally murder you for what you're saying. Metalcore is the scorn and joke of the entire Metal community. If you want me to delve into the reasons as to why, just say the word. Nobody acknowledges this stuff, thus nobody even puts that album in Metal's top 1000, nevertheless top 100 or top 10. I swear I'm not even joking, man. You're still really new to Metal, and I know that because you haven't heard too many songs off of one of the best Thrash Metal bands ever. You want good Metal? Listen to any band on the picture I have in my profile. Not nearly as heavy? Dear God, they define Metal..it's not about being heavy, it's about being worthy of being listened to..downtuned as fuck guitars..lame screaming vocals, with less than basic bass is laughable at best..not "epic".

Slayer's lyrics..can't comment there..few Metal fans give a shit about what's being said.

Vocals? I'm personally neutral on Araya's vocals..but he's one of the greats.

Guitar..overrated? LOL..good one, I swear..you like downtuned generic crap done by a bunch of posers, but Slayer's riffs are overrated..dude, all this I'm not saying off of opinion..you can go ahead and ask any real Metalhead, and he'd tell you THE SAME EXACT STUFF, seriously.

Drums? DRUMS?! DAVE LOMBARDO!!!! OMG..Dude, seriously, I'm gonna kill myself over this shit. Dave Lombardo is among the top greats of Drumming, and you don't like him..maybe Metal isn't for you? Beat? Listen to Britney Spears.

Ashes of the Wake is an awesome album and it is indeed one of the best Metal albums out there right now.

Shame on you.

Slayer- Rain In Blood

I don't know what's crappier..the fact that I already suggested it, or the fact that you don't even know the album's name..and put Rain instead of Reign. Good job, son.

I swear..I should post some topic where I spread the Metal knowledge around, because this is disasterous people..DISASTEROUS!
