Easily one of my favorite genres, a lot of unique music comes out of this.
Some of my favorite bands are:
Barcelona
mewithoutYou
Look Mexico
Minus The Bear
Dear and the Headlights.

Indie is my primary genre of music.
Barcelona is great.
mewithoutYou is actually a christian band, not an indie band.

I don't think I know what indie means anymore. I kind of knew what indie music meant when I was in high school. But the music industry has changed quite a lot since then and many bands can now get heard without actually having to have a big record label publish their music. And since there isn't a ton of money in CDs anymore, there are so many indie labels that they're kind of just sort of becoming the standard labels. But for the supposed genre itself, I also don't know what makes indie music be called indie music.

like indie is supposed to be short for independent right (without a record label, or major label?)? but then some bands that are on big labels call themselves indie (death cab? my friend refers to them as indie).
but if indie is a status, then wouldnt most indie bands suck? i mean all bands wanna be good and be heard, but if theyre indie than that woulnt be a good thing right?
oh yea, i like:
Nous Non Plus (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3PH3uo4aAvQ)
Rhett Miller (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jB5ZTpPY-5U) (only a few songs)
Fiction Family (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6UXQmLuFnC0) (just this song tho)
Tkatz (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=omfTKaf6AK4&feature=related)
i dont know if any of them are indie, but theyre bands that are rarely heard of

It's christian indie, it's on an indie label that primarily deals with christian bands, but the majority of there lyrics don't have to do with religion at all. I guess they would technically be 'christian indie', but good none the less. (wikipedia told me so. ;o http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/MewithoutYOU)
You should really check out Dear and the Headlights if you haven't, they're easily my favorite band right now.
On a side note, I wouldn't peg goodguy as a indie fan, lol.

Tooth and Nail is not an indie label, no matter what wikipedia says.
As for Death Cab, they came from an indie background and in doing so still get called indie, but haven't technically been indie in a long time.
Margot & the Nuclear So and So's is probably one of the best indie artists there currently is.

Yeah, they're really top notch, I like it when artists incorporate different musical instruments, kind of like 'The Dear Hunter'.
