Metallica has 4 awesome albums (kill 'em all, ride the lightning, master of puppets, and justice for all) Testament is okay? C'mon they turned the big four of thrash into big five, they are GREAT, and their new stuff is good. I never heard of this CKY but you should listen to Death or Control Denied before stating that.

2 or 3? Where do you live? Somalia? Kill'em All, Ride the Lightning, ...And Justice for All, and Master of Puppets fucking defined Thrash Metal. The Black Album was a killer, and had really good songs for everyone. Load and ReLoad are the kind of albums you'd expect the mainstream to like, and Death Magnetic was a powerful comeback album. Jesus, what a good argument on your part. New stuff is garbage? Death Magnetic beats Kill'em All..go figure. Testament is okay? WOW..it isn't personal opinion here..you can hate them, like some people do, but those people acknowledge what Testament has done for Thrash and the Metal scene in all. Typical garbage? Politics, society issues, and death is now "typical garbage"? Are you 10 years old or something? I didn't flame you. If you're that sensitive, go see a fucking self help manual.

Metalcore, Screamo, Hardcore, and such are not acceptable amidst the Metal community, which is why all elitists hate them and their fans. Deathcore, Deathgrind, Coregrind, Death, Black, Thrash, Traditional, Progressive, Folk, some Power, Heavy and such are all considered to be perfectly fine and completely artistic and talent demanding. I repeat..to each his own.

Many people like Progressive. Personally, it's pretty high up on my list. Arcturus, Opeth, and Wintersun are pretty good.

When I was a kid I used to really like power metal, but I can't listen to it anymore : the cheesiness is killing me. Some songs are still good tough because of the melody, the riffs and the solos.

That's when I started rediscovering the old metal bands ( Which partially explains the list above ).

Right now I'm randomly exploring some branches of metal as well as some punk. Have been listening to Kalmah, The Distillers, Queens of the Stone Age, Tvangeste, Billy Talent and Naiv (polish punk band) this month.

LOL i hate these "top x" lists. Theres a lot, which i cant place in an order.

Slayer, Opeth, Death, Pantera, Megadeth, Symphony X, Iron Maiden, Ozzy and Sabbath... this should give you a clue about my tastes.

Also, i usually just listen to a few, maybe even single song of a crapload of different bands.
It all depends on my mood. I could enjoy a song from Michael Jackson, LOL. But prefer metal of course.

(Have to admit that even some pop bands/artists can be damn good though. Being disrespectful to some band (or artist) just because of what genre of music it plays is just like those who say "WoW is gay!1!!11!" if you get what i mean.) (I have my reasons for hating MMOs though. :P)

Same thing happens with DragonForce, except their middle two albums really DO sound more similar than most bands. But their first and last album are quite unique when hearing them several times. They sound more unique to me than most bands I listen to.

Allot of bands get there influences from other bands or just coincidently turn up with tunes that sound allot like other ones, especially when these parts are riff based. Eventually these parts or riffs are not excactly the same...., though the sound and play-style takes a great part in this.

Let me tell you the musically correct answer, since no one here seems to be doing a good job at it.

Note: What I say is my opinion, and I mean no offense to any fanboi by saying it. If you don't like it, then debate me..don't take to heart.

Dragonforce's solos are basic riffs, with filling quick notes in between the basic riff. So let's say the basic riff is XYXY; they'd then develop that into a solo making it something like XUAUAUAYUAUAUAXUAUAUAYUAUAUAX. Get it? Now they play those really fast, to the point where you can't make out the small changes in notes. Thus, a lot of their stuff sounds the same, due to you missing the small parts in between. Now to the more clear answer, it's because they're unoriginal and run out of solos and riffs for their song. I've heard a LOT of fellow metalheads say that Dragonforce's songs are all the same, and I actually agree, since they hardly change any significant thing in their songs. They lack musical experimentation, and stick to one side and aspect of an already overused thing, yet they have their fans regardless. It's the kind of thing that's catchy the first 5 times, then gets bland, and you'd never listen to it again, because it failed the test of time. Now compare that to songs by Megadeth or Metallica. See what I mean? I still listen to songs by those two that I've listened to years ago. I hope you get my point.

more so brutal tech death. my fave are psycroptic (saw them live like 2 weeks ago :D so good), spawn of possession & origin. Gorelord are in there aswell, although they aren't tech death.

edit: in my opinion the best metal album i have ever heard is 'the scepter of the ancients' by psycroptic. worth checking out if you're interested.

Yeah I love the riffs psycroptic come up with. Only one guitarist aswell. And the drummer is soooo crazy. Seeing the drummer live like blew my mind he sounds like a drum machine, so fast & technical haha and at the end of one of the songs he started doing this really crazy high speed breakbeat pattern. :cool:

haha yeah I sure have heard of necrophagist before. I used to be into them a couple of years ago, not so much anymore but still he (mohammad) is very talented. If I remember correctly one of the albums he made entirely by himself. Same with gorelord, he made an album entirely by himself aswell.

If you're telling me their riffs, vocal work, basslines, and song structure doesn't contain any talent, then .. well..LOL@YOU. Generic sounds? That's quite hypocritical, what with The Black Dahlia Murder being on your list. 75%? Those are posers..real metalheads who like Metallica are by the millions.. hundreds and hundreds of millions. Fans of the bands you listed do not exceed 1 million.

But then again they have been searching for music for the past 20 some years. :O
