I finally finished normal difficulty as well. I didn't even die once. Nightmare difficulty so far is easy. Should be interesting to see how Skeleton King goes.
The game's getting a lot of criticism. I personally think its great. Will be the only game I need for a long time, I think.
Stayed home from work today because my allergies were going crazy. The game definitely took my mind off of it and I finally finished soloing normal with no followers. LOL!
I had no trouble after the
Belial
inciddent a few days ago. Acts 3 and 4 went very smooth. One death in Act 3, and none in Act 4. And now, I can check out the CE items that have spoilers.
@FreddyBenson Of everyone I've talked about this game with, you definitely seem like the most likely to start by going after the cow level.
@VegasRage Yes, totally out of their gourd. I can't imagine what these people were expecting, because this game delivered pretty much everything I hoped for.
@Tralari Grats on the flawless run through. I was really hoping to, and probably could have if not for Act 2. Stuff happened that I didn't expect and I let myself panic.
One of my friends, who did play D2 quite a lot, bought D3 the day after launch and of course couldn't log & kept disconnecting etc. So he started playing again today and posted the following status (translated to English): "Diablo 3 is extremely shit. Big waste of money." Then I laughed.
I'm loving nightmare so far. I opened a public game and soloed through the crown. Then suddenly 3 players dropped in, all with in 1 level of me. 2 monks and another DH. We ran through to the skeleton king and it was just so fast paced and fun. Finally hit a champion pack that drops those lasers things too. Was a wild fight.
This was my first coop experience outside of beta and I loved it! I seriously think this could be my favorite game of all time.

I'm also ready for multiplayer, and Nightmare!
"Allergies"; yeeeeeeeeah right, demon allergies!! I'm currently in Act 3, so hopefully I'll complete Normal and play some well deserved co-op with friends!

Cool story bro.
Now hurry up and add me DarkConjurer#1487
YEAH!!! But remember, don't join on one of my games atm, cause I'm still in Normal difficulty and want to finish it solo-mode!!!
If anyone is getting kicked off D3 with an error 3007 or 3005, I figured out why I was getting the error, my firewall (a Linksys BEFSX41 ver 2.1) is several years old. Updating the firmware didn't help either. So I went and plopped down for a new Cisco Linksys EA3500 and it's been smooth sailing for 3 hours straight. I would guess based on this the traffic must be more demanding for Diablo 3 than a lot of other games.
But I did start up a Hardcore character. Currently level 17 in Act 2. It's been an adrenaline rush, especially with 3 other people in the party. I've seen 2 barbarian's die so far. I felt so bad cause they just sat there for a second and then left the game without saying anything.
I had a very close death with a Demon Hunter while we were chasing down a treasure goblin. Ran across a pack of the bull type monsters with knockback power up. They just about tore us up. But we got the goblin and barely survived the onslaught that followed.
It's like a whole new game when you only have one life and you're trying your best to not give it up.
Why is the Diablo 3 storyline so fucking bad? Its like it was thought up by a 12 year old who played Diablo 2 a few times and has no real grasp on what differentiates the Diablo franchise from other franchises.
The rest of the game is pretty good. Some parts are amazing.
There are certain elements that is lacks that Diablo 2 had though, aside from a superior plot. None of the vendors or NPC's are memorable personality-wise - unlike the NPCs in Diablo 1 and Diablo 2 whose voices and personalities I can still clearly re-call in my mind.
Voice acting was really good for some characters, but poor for others. Not on the same level as Diablo 2 though. In retrospect, Diablo 2 voice acting was masterpiece level. Maybe its my fault for expecting a repeat of that. Also - they shouldn't of given Diablo a voice (more than a few lines)... I always though of Mephisto and Baal (esp. Meph) as the voices, while Diablo was like the younger, brawnier brother who followed their direction and intelligence. The voice they chose for Diablo didn't convey his character at all. It was generic demon at best.
I liked Azmodans voice though, in the cinematic with leah where its deep but there is the accompanying noise of 'clicking' in his throat. That was a badass demon voice.
Tyraels voice... wtf blizzard. Cmon now. What the hell!?
Deckards voice was... well, just like Deckard. Always the pessimist that guy. Always 'fearing the worst' and shit like 'impending doom'. heheh
Graphics are good. Its actually fairly dark and moody on my screen - even more so than the screenshots showed. Lighting and visual effects are nice. I suppose you can see a small influence from the warcraft design team occasionally but I'm not going to complain. Considering that was their background and original works (for this team). Theres plently of gore and blood explosions with Barbarian.
Monster design. Great
Level design is good. There's plently of closed in areas, and open areas. Everything there was great cept the Butchers level should of been filled with corpses and blood like Diablo 1. I mean, if you're going to bring him back - do it right. Aside from that - excellent. Jungle area in expansion please
Music? I don't seem to be hearing it. Almost to the point that I'm wondering if I have corrupt music files and can't actually hear anything? I can't even judge this yet. Slightly confused.
The written lore is awesome. I love listening to Deckard or someone read it out to me as I go forward. That stuff was pretty well-written.
Artistically, D2 wins over D3. By artistically I don't just mean visually because Diablo 3 has the obvious advantage of being a 3d game released in 2012 with nice lighting and mist effects. I mean the RPG elements and stuff - but anyway. Gonna go play some more D3 lol

AHHH!!!! I love the game, and I'm okay with the story but there's so much in here I aggree with. The voice acting is very much hit or miss. I love most of the player character voicings, and a few of the towns have memorable people. (Like the noblewoman and swordsman that I predicted would end up together from the first time I talked to them. ) Covetous Shen is hilarious. I think the guy who portrayed Tyrael did very, very well. Most of the bosses sound pretty bad. I can look over it, and it mostly doesn't bother me, but objectively speaking, they are just bad.
Actually it takes away from the game the slightest bit. Some locations feel pretty imtimidating and have some dark, sinister shit going on. And then you have one of the Evil's appear in a hologram, or start talking as a disembodied voice. That would be fine - except they all have cliched over-dramatic super villian dialogue, like they were based on Hordak from She-ra. Plus, they are almost always bluffing. Always. It's like "You can never close the portals to hell!!!!! BWAHAHAHAHAHHAHAHAHA!!!!!!" Ten minutes later : "Err... Ok, you closed the prtals to hell after all..... BUT IT MATTTERS NOT!!!!!!!!! BWAHAHAHAAHAHAHAHHAAHAHA!!!!!!"
It seems a bit out of place. This is geared to a 16+ audience, and the game has some pretty gruesome stuff. Why break the vibe by forgetting your audience and giving us enemy dialogue that feels like it was largely designed for 10 year olds.
I think you are right about the story being somewhat weak. But I've had a realization on that. I think Diablo 2 is like a lot of the stuff I look back on from that stage of my life. At the time it felt highly immersive and captured my imagination very thoroughly. Now as someone who has played RPGs and read fantasy fiction for.... untold years...... I think I'm just a tougher consumer than I was then.
But part of the problem is just the nature of sequels in general too. When you bring the same immortal boss back 3 times it gets a little trickier to keep it fresh. I think they did a good job expanding the scope, and making everything feel a bit more epic. All the Prime Evil and Nephilim stuff. I mean, it's practically mortal gods fighting the ultimate embodiment of evil. It's hard to pull that off with out making it ridiculuos, but I think it was probably one of the freshest directions they could go. I kind of got into it.
I like that merchant from act 3, he's on the western side of bastions keep... He's got this line: "Tried the adventuring life, didnt care for it, too much pain, not enough profit". This guy is always right im telling you.
As for the story discussion, I really enjoy Diablo 3 inside and out. I don't have any problems with any of the voice acting. The story was enjoyable to me, although I really wish Leah had survived.. it really did make me sad to see her turn. But I loved all of the level designs. Act 3 & 4 are brilliantly done.
The only part I disliked was the ending. I wish there was more to the ending than just Tyrael rejoining the angels as a mortal. But I guess at that point there really wasn't much else to do for an ending... since everyones dead. Seriously makes me wonder what they'll do for an expansion pack if they make one (or two..three..four?) since they kind of ended everything on a positive note... which is why I think I dislike the ending more than anything. Diablo 2's ending had you going "Well... what happens next? The world stone just blew up..."
I'm guessing something will happen with the Black Soulstone.. but I guess we'll have to wait and see.

But seriously, its fucking hard. Cant wait for inferno!
Edit: Finally! I beat Diablo Hell baby! getting owned by the zombies at the new tristram gates in inferno >.<
Edit: Only found 1 legendary during this time...meh
