Softcore is sooooooooooooo boring, it's for pussies tbh.
Meh...that's a bit condescending to the SC players. It's a different style of gameplay, but playing HC doesn't make you Johnny Badass. I play both, but SC has gotten stale due to a lack of endgame and a poor loot system.
HC is nerve-racking and quite stressful at times. So, to your point, it takes a certain type of person to handle it. I play HC SF, so the challenge is as high as it gets imo.
But I'm not gonna go your route and call people that get their HC gears from the AH "pussies". They just choose a different style of play that fits their desires.

I've decided to go the exact route after some reflecting. Gonna try to hit 100 Paragon before expac is released. Given my limited time available to play, I think I can still achieve this goal.
Until recently I played only on HC because of the thrill of it and that SC is a snorefest and it feels like cheating. But I've just gotten thoroughly fed up with dying to d/c's and other stupid unavoidable deaths. That and my friend refuses to play HC and playing alone is boring as hell.
So until they add an offline mode, or some form of mediumcore, I'm forced to play SC. *snore*.
Edit:
Not only that, but the way the game loads assets the first time you get into combat after loading up the game nearly gets my characters killed every time. That also has to stop.

I started a HC self-found char a while back when I got bored of farming SC and working through it slowly but surely when the wi-fi is behaving. Kill NM Butcher over the weekend, that fight had me terrified.
I prefer HC. Even doing the random grind you have to stay alert. I just finished Inferno MP1 on HC and nearly died when I got two champion packs right before diablo. Had me sweatin bullets. anyway, just my 2 pennies.
Thankfully I purchased an SSD before D3 was released, so I've never experienced the issues you guys are speaking of. BTW, thanks for derailing the original topic.
I have my own list of pros and cons. However keep in mind these are of my own opinion and im sure other people would disagree with me.
Here goes.
HC Pros:
1) High risk play creating memorable moments.
2) Defensive specs viable. on HC its completely acceptable to join a Pub game with a shield and low dps.
3) Ah on a smaller scale & No RMAH. There's still black market trading its just not as wide spread as SC.
4) Self Found play seems to be accepted on HC much more than SC.
5) Mp10 isnt the be all end all goal of the majority of players on HC, many just progress and try to build characters for low mp.
6) Higher replay value since you have to reroll if you die.
HC cons:
1) Lag/DC deaths
2) Less players overall
3) Takes longer to para level on low mp with a defensive character.
SC Pros:
1) Persistent characters, This is the mode if you want to play one supped up character.
2) DPS is the name of the game.
3) Complete focus on MP10, i consider this a plus since the playerbase is focused mostly on one goal.
4) Many more players
5) RMAH and much more loaded gold AH for those that enjoy that stuff
6) less stress
SC Cons:
1) Low risk can be boring after a while
2) With how loaded the AH is its very easy to buy great gear cheap and make the game unrewarding
3) Defensive specs and Self found play is usually looked down on.
4) RMAH pay to win, SC has many, many more credit card warriors...
5) A focus on DPS and MP10 makes softcore feel limited when it comes to class specs.

Now that I'm back to D3 (took a solid 8 month break), I'm having issues with deciding between HC and SC.
Here are my positives for each:
Hardcore
- Death is permanent. (I like the edge it gives the game)
- AH seems a little more reasonably priced.
Softcore
- RMAH (I like knowing I could potentially sell an item/gold for real cash)
.....
I guess that's it really. lol. I don't know. Can you guys help me decide?
softcore = sleep zzzzz
hardcore = stay on low mp and stay awake, or go on high mp and snort cocaine
Which Final Fantasy Character Are You?
Final Fantasy 7
I'm starting to feel the same way. I just wish there was a way I could sell items and gold for cash on HC.
I did a bit a research and it looks like selling things via third party websites would be a bigger hassle then it would be worth.
I think I'll keep playing HC, SC seems so blehh now.
