Lately there has been talk about once again changing legendaries and other items in order to filter out some of the crap. By making the items better and lowering the drop rates, the idea in once more being excited when a legendary drops is a nice idea.
But how about something different. Leave Legendaries the way the are now, potentially awesome, but usually not. And add a set of ultra rare, but extremely powerful gear called Mythic gear. Mythic gear is high stat extremely strong gear that is account bound an cannot be used in pvp. One-handed mythics would not roll below 1000dps and could roll up to 1700. two handers would cap at 2400. Stats on armor mythic's would be between 250-450.
I mean that's just whatever numbers, but the idea is that they would be items that you wouldn't find very often. (Maybe 1 in 20 Act 3 clears, for example) But when they do drop and you get the blue beam, you'd be excited. While randomness of stats still might sadden you as you get a 400int shoulder while playing your barb, there is still a much higher chance of getting yourself or and alt something worth equiping.
Not stupid, but old and similar to other ideas that; like smoke, have dissipated into thin air. Going to have to continue to wait for itemization changes. I suggest you don't hold your breath

Probably a stupid idea.
but I just wanted to get it out there.
You should post it on the main forum and get BLUE attention for at least a separate set of rare.
There's a lot of people that do not like the BoA-type items, and would instantly hate this idea just from reading that. I don't really mind, but then again I'm not very good at playing the AH to make lots of money.
However, at this point I would rather them adjust legendaries to make them exciting to see drop and balancing the benefit of having a shield or a 2h weapon, rather than the 90%+ of the population doing MH/OH combo's.

2 chances of that : 1) SLIM and 2) NONE .... slim left town
Maybe we should now call white items "common," blue items "uncommon," yellow items "rare," sets/legendaries "promos," and these new super legendaries "mythic rares."
Maybe there should be a vendor that also sells booster packs and pre-made theme gear, e.g. mono-blue gear.

Oh, Jaetch, you snarky devil, you.
On a more serious note, while the idea has merit, realistically what most people seem to want is to see the yellows and oranges - dare I say rare and promos? - become better even if they become rarer. As this is the path Wyatt Cheng wants to take, and since I like what I've seen in this post-Wilson, 1.08 world, I'd rather wait and see what the devs have planned.
If you consider that the term "legendary items" was actually borrowed from WoW, the next level would be "artifact" (though these items only exist theoretically in WoW).
As some have already mentioned, this was brought up earlier, and I actually like the idea. But these items should be really super rare, probably a reward from some event that you can do max once per weak and that's super hard (10x as hard as MP10 ubers or so).

The idea is to help players along in the upgrading of their characters, without overflowing the AH with items. So only making super hard to get in which you need super gear anyway to get defeats the point.
The reason these super items are BOA is to prevent deflation of previous rarity items on the AH. Let's face it....if you make a super tier of items tradable then those are the only items people will want to buy. So making them Boa reduces the risk of the AH market getting too jacked.
I'm all in for making it BoA, absolutely agree that these should not show up on the AH.
But if these items are not hard to get, wouldn't that be kind of pointless? If they're so super rare that you'd only find one in hundreds of hours, it wouldn't help any of the players who have sub-par gear. Hell, some of my friends who play D3 only occasionally (they're die hard SC players) haven't even found a single legendary yet. How are they supposed to ever find a mythic item?
That "super difficult task" I mentioned could be some dungeon where you get your gear removed at the entrance and everyone gets the same set of gear. If you really want to help new players you need something like this. If you'd find this gear on average after 1000 hours it's no help for anyone, just eye-candy for the 24/7 players...
Loot is a train wreck in D3. Some legendaries requires a lvl 58-59-60 to use but they are so bad not even a lvl 35 would use them. And those legendaries that you could use when you are lvl 15-20 and lvling up just don't drop and becomes forgotten.
Biggest problem in d3 right now is the critical damage and chance bonuses. It has become such a mandatory thing that pretty much 98% of any items (rares and legendaries) are useless if you don't roll at the very least one of them. They either need to remove it and change the hp/damage of the monsters to balance things out or add new affixes as good as CD and CC for items to roll, but right now none comes to mind.

Jaetch sure is a MtG-Player. His Charnames also say so. <3
Used to be. Haven't played in years (just collected). Sold most of my stuff besides my favorites. That's my off-topic for the day.
