Roughly about a month ago I made a really bad decision. I bought 300 million worth of Brimstones at 10k a pop. Recently, last night, they were down to 3.5k. With higher mob density you would expect more legendaries so in essence more Brimstones.
So in essence my question, will they ever go back up in price? I'm afraid the "itemization" patch won't be introduced until there is an expansion.
Itemization patch is slated for 1.0.9 but to be honest I don't see brims going up with the patch. We've had almost a year of over saturation with bad legendaries. Who knows though?
Make no mistakes, you've taken a pretty big hit in the difference between 10k and 3.5k. You'd have to sell at 11.5k to break even.
But, there's a reasonable chance that if the itemization patch is 1.0.8 and that re-fixes legendaries that Brimstone supplies will shrink by a good bit and the value of Brimstones will increase. Will they increase as much as you need them to? I have no idea. It's a shot in the dark, though.

1) Not to sound insensitive, OP, but right off the bat...that's the risk you take buying something as common as crafting materials at that high a price on the Auction House. Only legendaries I've sold on the AH were ones that didn't salvage into brimstone, like low level legendaries, and even some of those, I checked the game guide first to see. If they brimstone, I salvaged. If not, I either gave them to a friend with a low level toon, or listed them on the AH for a lowball price to make a little bit of gold.
2) I guess you're not seeing the same, but with higher mob density, I'm definitely seeing more legendaries. Since last week, I've easily seen six or seven, and even a few set pieces. It's mostly just math. People were upset when they initially heard that little monsters in the game were getting their drop rates nerfed, but those drop rates were only nerfed because higher density would lead to more kills, and thus, more drops. Higher end items are still hard to get, but with WAY bigger clumps and WAY more drops, ultimately "drop rates" are actually a teeny bit higher in the long run.
3) Still want to know about this "itemization patch." I've read the itemization blogs and the journal posts from the devs, but I've heard nothing about an "itemization patch." I really want to know where people heard ONE patch would come and magically fix the larger overarching issue of itemization. This is what happens when a HUGE issue is pigeonholed and broken down into one single word. I defend D3 all the time, and although I've gotten around itemization for the most part, I acknowledge that itemization in D3 has its problems. But many of those problems are worked around simply with time and effort. I'm a few strong runs away from having a Plvl 50 character, already, my MF with NV stacks and gear is over 400%. I get good drops more and more frequently, and if I don't get good drops, I make enough vending and gold pickups to fund crafting upgrades.
All in all, I'm sorry you lost gold on your purchase. Like other said, definitely hold onto those brimstones, they'll be good for more eventually. Exactly how many did you buy? 300 million worth at 10k a pop, meaning...10k per full stack or 10k per individual 1 Fiery Brimstone?

I bought them at 10,000 gold each so now I have roughly 30k Brimstones just sitting there.

You're a wizard Harry.....
If it does go back up, it will be a long time from now, but then, they will prolly add new crafting material on the expansion.
That is what I'm afraid of. Just like WoW, expansions bring in new crafting materials.

I'll be patient. Hopefully we get some news soon on 1.09. Sometimes speculation makes things go up in price.

Today 10,000,000 = .30 cents
Could we possibly see inflation within the next few days?
