I've started a barbarian that I've been playing strictly on MP10. I was just wondering, if anyone reading this has already tried a MP10 purist hero, can it be pulled off all the way through inferno without spending much gold on the AH?
I can't afford to buy end game gear off the AH and was wondering if hell difficulty gears you up for inferno.
Regardless, please do share your progress if you've tried a MP10 purist hero, it would be interesting to learn from your experiences
Im trying this myself on hardcore there is a post floating around or head over to my youtube channel for my latest video. Its fun but pretty hard and I'm only lvl 15!(barbarian)
There's a thread about this on the official forums, lots of people are doing this. Can't find it right now, check the blue tracker (there was a blue post in that thread as well).
It can be done easily using the AH, lowbie gear is cheap. That is until Inferno, at which point MP10 will destroy you instantly unless you spend an absurd amount of time farming Hell.
Sorry for the necro, but I'm doing this on HC (just the only mp10 thing, none of the no-ah nonsense) but I don't have a ton of money to buy equipment anyway, and stuff is a lot more expensive on HCAH than SCAH. I'm coming to the point (mid 20s) where I need better equipment to safely deal with enemies, but the drops they give me are lower teens equipment. Anyone find a way to combat this without relying heavily on the AH?
I did this with a HC WD. I beat normal at like lvl 35. No AH, only drops / crafting. I got a little bored cuz killing things was just so slow, so I turned MP down on nightmare so I could go a little faster.

Yeah, spend more time farming.
Also if this bothers you I sincerely hope you aren't planning to continue it into Inferno MP10.
Me and my friend are alive at hell hc act 2 mp10 (no exceptions), purist no ah only crafting and drops. It's very fun, but the late nightmare is insanely difficult due to the fact that you don't have nephalem (and no way to reach it, because monsters don't give you exp anymore) and no reasonable chance to get a decent drop. Both of us were close to death numerous times at that point, but luckily enough survived!
Now it's easier, because you can craft lvl 60 items and they own so hard
We both are lvl 60, dh and WD.
So to answer the question - yes, MP10 no ah is possible but really difficult. Plus, blizzard surely did not balance the leveling curve around no-ah challenges
. Plus, blizzard surely did not balance the leveling curve around no-ah challenges
Actually they did. I cant remember where i read the quote and i honestly am just too lazy to search for it but i remember one of the D3 designers saying that while testing they went into inferno with stuff like 500dps weapons cause they just didnt have so many players that they could just buy good stuff from a well populated ah...
In other words: D3 was designed originally to be beatable without buying anything off the auction house. It just was meant to be much harder. I also remember them telling that Inferno was meant to be an absurdly hard challenge that they were unable to beat themselves...
Of course i have to admnit that MP10 probably was not designed for non-ah players but more as a real challenge even to those who excessively buy equipment on the ah. Still the whole "Blizzard forcing the ah on players" thing is just not true, it was actually more like the other way around...

I wasn't clear enough. I totally agree that Blizz balanced the game to be beatable without ah (even at the first version of inferno), but not on mp10.

- MP10 only
- No AH
- No trades
- In-game drops only
And I've heard of some other suicidal ones like:
- No vitality bonus
- No potions
Correct me if I'm wrong.

I am going to try this tonight,

You are impossible.
There are many people who have done/are doing MP10 purist, including HC. There was even a blue post: http://eu.battle.net/d3/en/forum/topic/5967270012?page=1#8
