Hey all! Long time reader of DF.com, but I rarely post. I wanted to start this topic and see if it gains any traction, because I haven't really seen much mention of it.
...
My play time in D3 had started to wane before 1.04, but I have been hooked back on this game ever since its release, and I think 1.05 sounds interesting, too!
First off, I'm a big fan of the Paragon Leveling system. Coupled with the fixed repair costs, I no longer feel like I am losing progress when I farm. I am only up to PL13 on my main (Demon Hunter), but I love the fact that it takes so long to level up. It's rewarding and keeps me slaying while I look for some of the new legendaries (I've found two cheap ones; sold for about 850k).
My only criticism of the Paragon System is that it is character specific. I have a level 60 barb and my WD is nearly at 60, but because of how time consuming Paragon Leveling is, I know that I will never want to play my alternate characters.
To play my alternate 60s is to literally lose money. I understand why they made Paragon individual, but I think a fair fix (in order to promote playing multiple characters again), would be to make the Magic Find aspect of Paragon Levels an account-wide bonus.
For example, my DH is PL13 and my Barb is PL0. They would both have +39% MF Bonus, but my DH is the only one that gets the additional stat upgrades.
This way, if I were to play my other level 60s, I wouldn't feel like I was wasting my time. It would allow me to change my play style and farm with my other characters without significantly dropping the effectiveness of my farming.
As it stands now, I will only ever play my DH, and my other characters will just gather dust..
i had the exact same idea in mind. i'm stuck on the first character i level my paragon levels with. i started with my demon hunter and reached pl3, got my gf hooked up with diablo 3 and chose my barbarian as her companion (she plays a demon huntress).
ever since i long for clearing the known path in act 3 with my other chars as well for the sake of change (have all classes maxed out), but i can't because every progress i do on another char is progress my barbarian won't get.
here's hoping blizzard changes their stance sometime.
All they need to do is make the MF/GF account-wide.
The only thing that is limiting people from grinding pLvls on a new toon is that the OLD toon is going to find a fuckton more items due to high MF. I know even at pLvl 30 I sure as hell won't be playing other toons (thankfully they're all 60 now). But it's not because of the marginal gain in statistics, it's because of the 90% MF they're behind. And, no, I don't think we should be forced into kitting out all our alts in 300% worth of MF gear, cause that's a bit asinine.
The other problem is that they'd have to do a bit of tricky coding to ensure the MF/GF didn't stack, and only used your highest one. Otherwise, people with several 60 will just level them all to P20 and have capped bonuses.
Since when using the highest plvl to determine mf and gf on all chars is tricky coding ? :>
Anyways, I agree completely. I love my WD and I play it a lot, but sometimes I feel like playing my bard too. Sadly, bard is plvl 0 and the loss of 23 plvls of mf and gf is not worth the change of playstyle, at least for now :/
Would love to see at least mf and gf become account wide.
They could also give an experience bonus to all alternates (alternate being any hero which is not the one with the highest pLvL or highest exp) equal to 2% times your highest Paragon level.
Then if your highest pLvL character is 25, you would get a 50% bonus in exp gain for all others. If it's 100, then you gain a 400% exp bonus (it's still gonna take ages to level them all up, but it's an idea).
I'd honestly like for pLvL to be account-wide, but I don't think that's something they would do now. Introducing a system to help/encourage playing alts wouldn't be crazy though.
Maybe we should just get all the chacters at level 60 with 100 para level the first time we level 60 in the game and be done with it....
Character progression should only affect the character being played in my opinion, too many changes to make things easier have already been done by Blizzard, i really hope they don't start linking progression between characters.

Leveling is part of the game.
Definitely agree, I just see the fact that one toon might have, say, 210% MF from pLvls as a major, major discouraging factor from playing another toon. It's probably something they can address without blowing up the system or making leveling too easy or anything like that, though.

And a lot of people already seem to not have incentives enough to play multiple classes (namely the time it takes to level them up, plus the fact that gearing them also takes a chunk of their gold).
The Paragon system kinda added insult to that I just wanted to be able to lvl them all to 100, and I simply know that I won't be able to (as a fact - unless wins in PvP count heavy exp points :P).
Or people could stop complaining. If you want to be able to farm with all your characters without MF gear, you need to level them all in the paragon system. It's not like you could open Diablo 2 and expect that your warcry barb was going to get the same MF bonuses as your farming sorceress just because you put more time into her and her gear.
If you play a character, under the paragon system, they get better. If you don't, you can still gear them out with the magic gear you find with your main. There is 100% ABSOLUTELY NO REASON THAT BLIZZARD SHOULD MAKE PARAGON BONUSES ACCOUNT WIDE.
If you feel like it's too time consuming, then stop playing. It's a game, not a job.
Does everything have to be about what's most profitable? I play a different character because I want a break and want to have fun with something else. If you're only in it for the money you're making the game a grind anyways, what do you care what class you "play"?
I don't disagree with a possible XP % bonus to alts that scales with your highest paragon level, however.

I think this sounds like a nicer idea than making it account-wide since when you eventually get to 100 account-wide you are essentially back to square one with no endgame progression.
I agree with OP. No chance I'll play any other character because the thought of leveling up a second character is almost as unbearable as the thought of not being able to take advantage of a pLvl 100 character once I've got one.
I read half of this and was shaking my head the whole time.
Why not just do away with levels altogether? I mean if I wanted to start a new character why shouldn't that new character be equal to my other character. I mean I already put the time in once...
Seriously, it's a game. It's meant to be played. Don't ask for it to be easier. All it is right now is time that is being used. Why complain that you aren't playing another character just because you keep thinking about the time you're missing out on the main? What about before paragon levels? Did you ever once think, hey this isn't fair that my WD is a level 45 but my Barb is only 30?
I think everyone are stuck to their main chars atm. My DH is 2 bars from lvl 29 now. Ive got plenty of nice legendaries for my sorc but i simply cant play her cause of that PL system =(

There is a big difference between CAN'T and WON'T.
Every single time a big change comes up we get QQ and, quite frankly, stupid arguments like the one discussed here.
