If it was scheduled, why wasn't there are posted time gap BEFORE the servers went down? Damage control much?
If it was scheduled why was there a ~30 minute gap where everyone just crashed out without server warnings or anything and then the game creation errors?
I remember reading a post on this before the weekend somewhere, that said it was going to happen. Also, Tuesdays have been a consistent Maintenece day with the exception of one Wednesday since the game released.
Until the game is considered "stable" by Blizzard, I just assume that if's a Tuesday morning / afternoon, Diablo will be down. Downtime will be a lot less once things have settled a bit. Here's hoping, anyway.
I don't care if it goes down, I just don't see why the maintenance schedule can't be posted on the login page 24hrs early instead of the moment maintenance starts. Right?
Orrrrrrrr....you could look at the post on the forums that stated the scheduled maintenance 3 days ago.
Just because they didn't put it right in front of YOU, doesn't mean that it wasn't announced. If you can't be bothered to look this stuff up ahead of time, doesn't mean that it's blizzard's fault.
I'm so tired of the entitled whiners that shit up this community.

Or they could just post it on the login page, soe very single player would see it. Is there a good reason not to? If it was posted when it started, there was no reason for it to not be posted earlier.
You're the one shitting up this community, fanboy. Learn to discern legitimate constructive criticism from whining. Critical thinking skills dude. Are there any negatives to posting the maintenance schedule in-game where every player will see it?
I seem to remember in the first ~2 weeks they did that. I assumed they would just keep doing it, for convenience sake.
It may not be an MMO, but in reality with the volumes of players, the sheer number of games played a day, RMAH tie-in, cross chats, etc, its really similar in the server array needed to run it... so its very easy to see it needing similar regular downtime. I would guess that once everything gets ironed out, it will be an every 2 week schedule.
Have to agree with blujay on this one. They could put a message on the launcher, or on the log in screen. Even Wow does that, and given that D3's maintennance coincides with Wow's maintennance, it's not unreasonable to expect something similar.
Baddboi, your comment has more vitriol than almost any I have seen here. You could have just provided the link and helped educate people, but whine and belittle at the same time, while complaining about 'the community'. That is the ultimate irony right there..

You say your not mad about how they don't post it in front of your face yet you feel the need to create a topic on it, on a diablo "fan site".
If you want something changed go to the blizzard site and post, but more then likely due to your posting I'm sure you are already banned on that website.
Btw, it tuesday, you should have expected it. Not anything new.

I'm banned on that website because I had my account stolen by a goldseller because I used the same password on a different insecure forum.
Frankly, I'm glad it happened. That board moves so fast and all the users are so homogeneous it's almost impossible to stand out or have any meaningful discussion at all because by the time I got off work every day all those threads were buried completely.
So yeah, sometimes you learn lessons. I got to have a fun password-changing day.
Yours today is that constructive criticism isn't always a negative thing.
Blizzard has always been horrible about communicating downtime with its customers. This is, sadly, nothing new. After about 4 years of complaints they'll realize that "just the forums" isn't enough because most players aren't going there and sifting through everything just to find out if a blue posted that there will be maintenance on X day. There is a "breaking news" area on both the WoW and D3 login screens for a reason. It's got to be infinitely easier just to keep them accurate than to not use them properly.

It will get better for example for Warcraft: Tuesday use to be the maintenance day but the last two years we have gone months in between maintenance days.
This might shock you guys... but even Google servers go down for maintenance... or at least the main ones. They run with a backup cluster to help minimize overall downtime for users to something like less than 2 hours a year.
Now, the cost of pulling THAT off if far larger than Blizzard could consider for any of their games.
Did they fail to update the News slot on the login screen? Yes. It's not the first time they have either, as it has been commented by 1 or 2 CMs in the past. Human error cause... guess what... the people over at Blizzard are HUMAN.
The primary source of the information was updated (see: forums on official community site). That would be like saying you can't believe they are doing road construction right outside your house, when it was in the newspaper that they would be working on your street for the next 1-2 weeks, and you are appalled because you were not directly informed. The information was provided, you just chose not to read the primary source of said information.

Took me 2 clicks and a Google search to get me there. Google > diablo forums > Server status forum where its always posted for every blizzard game at least 2 days in advance unless its a emergency,
If it's a emergency it's still posted there.

OK that still doesn't change the fact that putting it in the Breaking News section automatically puts it in front of everyone's face and saves *everyone* (including Blizzard) some time and effort.
I know how to use Google and I know where the D3 server status page is. It doesn't change the fact that using the Breaking News as intended would avoid 90% of these complaints. Why have a feature in your system that allows you to basically alert your players of important news... if you're not going to use it? I'm not saying it's difficult to find the information on the forums. I'm saying it's an unnecessary step (for everyone involved) given the other mechanisms we have in place.

Don't people have jobs?lives?do you sleep?kids maybe? For fucks sake it's one "half day" where you don't get play a month maybe? Calm down already.
People who tell other people who are already calm to calm down are ingrates.
All I'm saying is, they could post the server maintenance times on the login page; on this occasion there was nothing there anyway.
Also, this sin't an MMO. It shouldn't be going down this often, end of story.
