So I've taken the day of work to play D3 and have spent the afternoon just looking at a login screen with errors.
I don't care about Blizzards technical issues, thats not my problem. They are a company like any other, selling a product that I have purchased that so far doesn't work. They have chosen to make a game that requires internet and server access even for a single player experience. I have no issues with technical issues when I'm trying to play online multiplayer but this... is just ludicrous.
I have a wife, young daughter and a demanding job and my time is very precious and for this reason I have actually taken time off work to play D3 as I have very little time to do it in my day to day life. I don't want to go for a walk, get something to eat or chill out. I had taken time of work, using holiday pay and causing more work to go back to tomorrow for nothing.
In about 30 minutes It'll be time to go and pick up my daughter, put on some dinner and then it'll be back to daily grind tomorrow and trying to squeeze in an hour each night of free time to play D3... thats if its working of course.
If your time is so precious you should have did a bit of research into launch day problems that exist with every on-line game that's ever been launched.
No. I don't need a divorce... perhaps from Blizzard, but from my wife? Are you drunk? Only someone without a demanding job, wife and kids would make such a moronic statement.
If your time is so precious you should have did a bit of research into launch day problems that exist with every on-line game that's ever been launched.
Like I said... not my problem. Blizzard shouldn't have released it if it didn't work... simple. D3 is a product, like any other. Not for one second do I forgive the product not working due to issues that are integral to the product they are selling. Do you buy and car and expect it to not start for 24 hours? No, and D3 is no different.
"shove all the responsibility over to someone else and then start whining".... what? Battle.net uptime is the responsibility of no one but the people at Blizzard.

Turns out it is your problem, since you're the one getting behind on work and whining on forums about your tragic first world problem. Take a little personal responsibly, anyone with an ounce of sense knew there would be problems in the first couple of days.
"shove all the responsibility over to someone else and then start whining".... what? Battle.net uptime is the responsibility of no one but the people at Blizzard.
Spot on. This logic of "You should have known it WOULDN'T have worked (as promised) and because you didn't its your fault" is just ludicrous.
So, as a consumer I'm an idiot for thinking that I would able to use a product once it is available for sale, as promised by the seller on the day it is released? Yeh... that make's a lot of sense.

Everyone who occupies reality knew servers would be unstable for days.
Edit: Online games are a service, not a static product. That's why they sell you a licence to play on the servers.
And then when you switch back to the US servers, freak out because your characters have disappeared.
That's why I said temporarily. There's really no point getting frustrated over it, really it should've been expected that there would be server issues this soon after launch.
Comparing it to buying a car is just stupid, the servers are getting stressed because of the sheer volume of people trying to play simultaneously. You buy a car, you get your keys and you drive. That's it, you don't have to cram thousands of people into the car. In this case you bought the game, you got your game key but there is a third "hurdle" you have to rely on servers that ARE trying to handle thousands of people, if not close to a million. Completely different.
Same story all the time. People shove all the responsibility over to someone else and then start whining. Instead you should have been smart and you could have known shit would hit the fan. Try another afternoon off, next week. Things will have settled down.
Blizzard has been advertising for WEEKS "Play at 12:01am on May 15!"
not "play an afternoon in june like the troll says"
by choosing to make the game exclusively online, and require players to play via their servers and not their own computers, Blizzard is committing to providing us with reliable service. And that service was scheduled to start at 12:01, a point that blizzard publicized greatly. They were very proud of the whole "you'll be able to play the second servers go live" thing.
anyone with an ounce of sense knew there would be problems in the first couple of days.
Those issues should have been dealt with (and blizzard said they dealt with them) during the open beta weekend. The only purpose for that weekend was to stress test the system, so at launch THERE WOULDNT BE ANY F**KIN PROBLEMS
Blizzard had (apparently) taken all the necessary steps to prevent these problems. God only knows how much time they've had to prepare for this launch... AND experience in MMO launches are NOT unfamiliar to Blizzard... their success has been largely due to the MMO market, and they are experts at what they do. Nobody is denying that. But after a 9 month (ish, im estimating) closed beta, a hugely successful open beta stress test weekend, it's really disappointing that today has been over half downtime.
Lol - i was playing Russian roulette, because there was only a 1 in 6 chanche i would get shot. But I got shot first time.
So now im gonna sue the event co-ordinator.
That makes more sense than the opening to this thread.
I also took time off work, and i knew it would be a 50/50 that there would be bugs.
Not blizzards fault, yours for expecting too much. and dont go on about " it should have worked day 1 blah blah" even if it is true - YOU are responsible for your action, not blizzard. They didnt ruin your day, you did.
i was peeved as well, but damn, i took it as things that happen launch day, in fact there is a hilarious chain email at work that I am going to have to reply to when i get the courage, detailing the fail of me taking a day off on Diablo 3 opening week. It is quite humerous.

Amazing, someone else who understands how the world works when you put away the "on paper" BS.

If a man is offered a sandwich, and when he reaches out for it, the sandwich is taken away, whose fault is it that he doesn't have the sandwich, his for reaching for it, or the people who pulled the sandwich away by taking down the sandwich servers for emergency sandwich maintenance?

see what i did there?
Yes I do, you made a strawman argument.
I won't deny that cuz obviously its true, i was just messin around (hence sandwiches) but you can't honestly believe that none of the fault for today lies with blizzard... I expected them to do what they said they would do. is that expecting too much?

They can't test millions of people logging into servers at one time and crashing them. The best they can do is fix it when the problems occur. It happens with all releases.
Sure the open beta gave them an idea, but not even the amount the probably bought the game did open beta.
Just an impossible thing to "fix" before the fact.

Sounds like you have no idea how a game works, or how a game that has thousands if not millions of people connecting to servers. If you are a father and have a wife I would think you to be more responsibly and logical. Look at any past blizzard launch, at one point in time the servers go down, it always happens. Do not get upset that you can not play, be upset that you wasted your own time. Do not come on the forums and complain when Blizzard has done this for 7 + years.
I still can't comprehend how Blizzard has so many people convinced that their failures and mistakes are not actually their own fault. Then those people get all pissy at those of us who see through it and actually expected them to do the job right. THAT is some talent in the brainwashing department if I don't say so myself. My job would be so much easier if I could learn a bit of that! Where do I sign up?
