Jay Wilson states that he can not clear less than half of act 1 without less than 10 deaths.
He states that in Inferno if you find a really hard pack, you are not really able to skip them, while in nightmare and hell you can kind of just move around them.
thanks alot. just wanted to clarify he didnt say anything close to "impossible" liek the other guy said. :). and of course the lead game designer is the absolute best player at the video game right? because jay wilson has won tons of game competitions ya? oh wait no, this is just more of the blizzard fanboydom and worship and if they say anything it suddenly becomes word of god and has to be true. considering they have never been right about the difficulty of their games in the past
Right, I forgot you have to win tons of game competitions to be good at a game.
Also, where did this notion that all game designers are inherently terrible at video games come from? You and many others on these forums seem to hold this belief. Pretty sure they're all gamers like the rest of us and quite a few of them are probably good at the games they design as well as others. Well unless they haven't won any pro game competitions...
Right, I forgot you have to win tons of game competitions to be good at a game.
no of course not. but people are acting like "oh if jay wilson and some blizzard employees have a hard time it MUST mean its insanely hard/impossible for anyone else". no idea why a lot of people are acting like they are the best gamers on the planet on this forum either.
PS. the blizzard employees who were saying its so hard are the same ones who said they died several times in normal. lolol

I don't know about D3, but I know for a fact that they had quite a few pro-circuit level players testing SC2. Why would you assume that the people testing D3 suck? This game is not hard at all...

I said it was impossible to do inferno? link pls kthxbai.
im a pretty competent player myself and plan on beating inferno. Thank god you know what kind of player I am from mentioning a quote rather than talking BS. And yes i'll be playing a WD not a melee.
I said it was impossible to do inferno? link pls kthxbai.
link to where i said you said inferno was impossible? you said running was impossible "cuz jay says so". implying jay is the absolute best player on earth. sad sad. then savages linked to where jay made some comments which jay said nothing about it being impossible at all just that he died a lot in the beginning of act 1 inferno. which really says nothing about anything because theres no proof hes even that good. designing a game has no bearing on your ability to play it, this isnt a simple point and shoot or a puzzle game it has thousands of variables so its not "i designed it therefor im the bestest". i suspect hes at least decent at the game but he may not be. so if a decent player is saying they are having a tough time that doesnt mean the game is super uber hard, it just means its not real easy.

It should be all balanced. Obviously they don't want people to choose a ranged class just because they will die in hell or inferno because they're melee. Melee classes have lots of heals and damage reduction anyways.
Considering the fact that some monsters will have a +40% run speed buff and max character run speed is what 25% (?), yes, it is mathematically impossible to run from that group of monsters, especially if you are out of resources.
Of course, your "average pro gramer" will disagree... he has to, in order to maintain his image. Poor kid.
It doesn't take a genius to figure out that there are going to be situations that are impossible to beat. Such situations result in character death. To deny the fact that these situations will occur is really a result of delusion. Melee characters will be better equipped to handle such situations, as they are designed to handle them.
Vault is not free to cast. Teleport is not free to cast and has a cooldown. Situations will arise in which all those little tricks are useless and brute force will be the only way out. You think it is not so, just wait and see.
By the way, note how Jay said a special team of devs - the best at Blizzard - were unable to beat Inferno. Also, he said that those players helped give difficulty advice, and then it was multiplied by 2 after their advice. It will be hard, hopefully brutal, but very enjoyable, and eventually some people will beat it. Some will even farm it. Looking forward to the challenge.
Everyone likes to state their opinions and perspectives and that's exactly what a forum is for. The matter of the fact is this...we only got a very little taste on the Beta and have not yet experienced the full game, and I'm sure there will be many patches to address any kind of inbalance. Blizzard has said time and time again they won't do ANYTHING to harm the co-op experience. So I'm sure at one given point all characters will compliment each other nicely and we'll all get along and kick ass together with a variety of characters. Unless you get a bunch of barbs together than that's cool too and probably a whole lot more powerful. Just kidding, but seriously, Baba powah.

Comprehensive list of all strength classes: Barbarian.
Whoa you can read!
So if you read it right, yes, I will be the only barbarian out of my group of friends. Good job bud!
Just seemed like you chose the poorest combination of words to describe the situation. But by all means, continue speaking like a fool; just settle down first.
This topic is becoming derailed and abusive, like so many more lately, all with people arguing about something unknown since none of us have played Inferno yet. It's quite sad since this forum is usually such a nice place
I still disagree that ranged are going to be better off than melee, and hold to the fact that a player with good ability (not great, not rubbish, just good) will be just as effective at surviving with a ranged class as they would with a melee.
People mentioning resources and that barbs are the only ones that can do anything at zero resources aren't entirely correct, but nearly have a point. The other classes do have spells to use when out of resources, but I think the Barbarian has better tools available to him. Consider the following scenario; your character has been surprised by a trap (or just been rushing through and not killing things) and you get swamped by a load of bad guys. You can start kiting, but don't know where you're going, it's possible you could get stuck against a wall or into a corner. There are too many, you can't kill them fast enough:
A wizards signature spells are weak in comparison to her AP cost spells, and all are damage instead of utility. Too many mobs with little space to kite could easily end in defeat.
DH has Prepartion and Evasive Fire that might help get out of a tight spot, but you would have to be careful when kiting and a 45 second cooldown can feel like a long time if you're being surrounded.
WD has only Big Bad Voodoo and Fetish Army that are free casts, but both have 120 second (unbuffed) cooldowns. I can't see either being useful in this scenario.
The monk's resource generators do a decent amount of damage, some have debuffs that can be applied, but once again, little utility available if you're in a tight spot.
If a barbarian is surrounded by evil demons and runs out of fury he has a few fury generators that are great utility, Ground Stomp to stun everything, Leap to get the hell out of there or even Furious Charge might be effective (depending on how many hits you take on the way. Not forgetting that Ignore Pain, Revenge and Overpower might have a cooldown, but cost no fury to use.
When you consider the scenario of being pushed into a corner, out of resources, and swarmed, the barbarian definitely seems to have the advantage on surviving. I'll accept that the possibility if being pushed into a corner like that might be slim and will depend on player ability, foresight and preparation with your cooldowns and maybe even 'playing it safe'. My point is that a barbarian with the right skills doesn't need to worry about that as much as the other classes and has the tools to survive if it does happen.
I'm also not intending to shout that 'barbarian is better than the other classes' because it's down to personal preferences and playstyle.
A lot of people are forgetting that a melee character isn't just going to be charging in, have everything hitting on them the whole time as they hack away sanding still. This shouldn't be the case for any half decent melee player.
As melee you should be splitting the packs up and taking them out in smaller, manageable numbers. Melee DO need to kite and use as much crowd control and utility spells as ranged, only they use it to make the packs easier to defeat so they take less hits when they go toe-to-toe to bring them down. Ranged would likely be using these abilites to keep the monsters as far away as possible while they pick them off.
My argument from a previous post in this thread was also that melee players have better experience, skills and maybe even gear to survive several hits from monsters, whereas a ranged player used to kiting might not be able to survive if they come up against a Waller/Teleport minion or something with a charge attack that's difficult to keep range on.
There are going to be strengths and weaknesses to both ranged and melee, and a lot of it will come down to the player, skill choices and gear. Please don't consider all melee to be purely meat shield decoys for the rest of your co-op team to laugh at and keep ressing as ranged are not going to be the ultimate invincible killing machines that a lot of people are expecting them be.
Great post. Thanks. I usually don't read posts that long because I am lazy but you made a lot of good points. I didn't think of a lot of that stuff and a lot of the things that you said will prob. end up being correct when it comes to inferno.

Ok ok, i guess I worded it weird but when I was typing that I was thinking about all my friends going, 4 dex characters 3 int characters, no str character.

ah ok. he said nightmare. nearly equally as sad considering the leap of difficulty from norm to nightmare isnt even noticeable in D2, if anything id say nightmare is easier if you manage to at least find a couple pieces of ok gear since in normal you could go long periods of time with complete shit white gear.
