I don't know how this will play out, but I am curious if anyone believes we will be able to 'collect' in D3?
In D2, we could collect every known item using a 3rd party software (ATMA). My wife and I loved collecting everything, but I wonder if we will be able to in D3? My initial viewing and understanding of the stash is that there will not be enough room to collect everything.
Anyone know for sure if collecting will be out of the question? I realize that I could buy multiple copies of D3 with multiple accounts to have more stashes to use; but at $60 a pop, I won't do that just so I can see if I can find everything in the game.
The AH is a biiiiiig collection. You can liquidate anything to gold and later buy it back with said gold. The supply will be high enough that anything you want to collect will be there.
No, there's no way you'll be able to collect one of everything that exists in-game on one account. If you're the gotta-have-em-all kind of player, I can see how this might bug you, but it's not realistic to expect Blizzard to provide everyone's account with enough storage to do that. You could, of course, manually keep a list of every item you've had at one time or another, but you wouldn't be able to store them in perpetuity.
No, collecting like that won't be feasible. That being said, your stash is many times bigger than vanilla D2, and stack size has been increased for most items, although I'm not sure if gems will also be stackable.
Supposedly, gems are going to be on the commodity market along with gold and crafting items, so they'll have to be stackable for that to make any sense.

...and if you disagree with me, you're probably <insert random ad hominem attack here>.
blizzard has already stated that increased stash size is a very possible idea. they nerfed the available space for launch to test if all the items and item affixes will cause storage issues. or something along those lines, it was a few months back. but they said if there arent any issues, they would increase the stash.
who knows, maybe if that STILL isnt enough they will add some sort of additional storage. they did it in warcraft with void storage. personally i think it would be cool to have 2 stashes. one for your whole account, and another character-based like d2 was.

(this build was before D3 launched... looking back on it now - i had no idea what i was doing)

I was just remembering how I could have a full IK set sitting in the wings, other sets to try out for new character leveling, MF gear for my barb and for my sorceress, special gear for my necromancer builds, etc...
With the new Diablo III, I will be content on maybe sticking to just having a checklist to mark off things I have found.
Again though, this is all a guess at the moment how it will work out since we don't even know how many full sets of gear there will be. ATMA just made it so you could collect all sets of gear to wear anytime you wanted to try it out. With D3, we won't get that flexibility. We will have to be selective on what sets we want to try and fulfill.
Thanks for all the feedback.
