They just have to separate those who own the expansion and those who do not, this isn't a stretch of logic by any sense.
this seems right. The'll just party you with people with your same game-xpac. If you have D3 youll cap at 60 inferno will be 61, if you own D3.1 you'll cap at 70 inferno will be 71.
splitting games, isnt this what they'll do with wings of liberty(SC2) and heart of the swarm(SC2.1)

Not to sound like a jerk or anything but this would be extremely boring if they never extended content... I think for sure they will be raising level caps and in turn, better gear.

Me- Can haz beta key?
Mod- NO NOOB BAHAHAHAHA! *goes to play beta*
Me- /wrists
also the only thing i would like added in an expansion is new characters and items, and ill be happy.
if they did add new char, a +1 player to the group size may develop.....or not.......but if that were to
happen areas would need a boost in size and resolution in screen. maybe not im not sure. just throwing
that out there :Thumbs Up:

in d2 you could not join ppl that do not have the expansions vice a versa, im sure you already knew that tho. same went with ladder, so that ends thats argument
Why are people so sure that you won't have to start a new character when the expansion hits? D2 did just that. Leveling, itemization, acts, other game mechanics will be different and a different experience through all the difficulties so starting from the beginning again just makes sense.
From a business standpoint, it would be a smart move to separate players and have players start new expansion characters. It gives more incentive to buy the newest content so that you can play and get the same experience as those who shelled out the money for the expansion.
I don't want Blizzard ever introduce lvl higher than 60. I want all lvl 60 legendary and set items to stay difficult to find and for them to be wanted forever and ever and not to be useless crap as soon they introduce new expansion with lvl 65 cap or smth. Expansions should be like in old D2, just a content and new items 60 additions where new items should be different but not superior to other items already in the game. They should just make all the best legendaries to be very difficult to get (like if you play for a year you should find one, any one not necessarily a weapon).
Do anybody know about blizzard plans regarding above for current Diablo? If you have some blue posts it would be great.
I don't want to bring you bad news but I am pretty sure the level cap will be raised with the 2 coming xpacks, and with those will come better and more powerful weapons too.

D2 didn't make people start new characters for the expansions, they just had to convert their old characters to it. Shiny little button, made an old character and expansion character in no time flat.
I always felt it was the spirit of diablo to keep items viable even after expansions, instead of restricting us to a tiny pool after each expansion (a la WoW and many other MMOS) keep older items viable but add newer items as well. Basically I would like it if they avoided BiS type of stuff.

Well especially for specific builds there will always be a BIS, but just like PantheraOnca said, a BIS especially in diablo doesn't have to be the newest or highest ilvl. An expansion is probably two years away anyway, so we will have a lot of fun for awhile. You also have to think that the lower level gear will always be viable for leveling =D
As long as I can kill stuff I don't worry about the best items possible. Chances are I'll never see most of it anyway. Like the Windforce bow from D2. Lol.

I think because of the amount of botting and duping from D2, people have forgotten this =D Blizzard said themselves the rarest items in D2 (think tyraels might) should have been found by only a couple people worldwide in the last decade of D2 play. They also said they plan on having the rarest items in D3 be about the same, which personally is awesome. That means we will always be wanting that rarer item, but at the same time can have fun even if our items aren't top notch =D

Hooray! I know I'll probably never find anything super rare! Lol.

Ah yes, I forgot about that. The fact remains though, blizzard separated the player base into those with and those without the expansion. They will do it again for SC2 and probably with D3exp.
I'm amazed NO ONE in this thread, despite the countless references to D2.
Who is to say they wont have 1-20 Normal, 20-40 Nightmare, 40-60 Hell, 61 Inferno for current D3.
Then expansion launch, you have to convert your toon into an expansion toon. Then you have more content, and it goes 1-23, 23-46, 46-70, 71 inferno
Also, whoever thought RMAH meant free expansion. Say that to WoW, $15/month and expansions STILL costs 60.

^ please dont speak out of your ass... There is no unique item I havent seen drop over 10 times, and I didnt play 10 years straight.
Zods on the other hand, I've only had 3 drop for me ever. a Zod is about a 0.000002% drop chance If i recall correctly. I think I played about 2 years of LoD.
at no point did they ever say, something should of been found only a couple times in the last decade of d2, with legit play.
Doubt it? read that guide, and download the pdf.

"...We few, we happy few, we band of brothers; for he to-day that sheds his blood with me
shall be my brother..."
If they raise the level cap, they have to add a new difficulty level. They can't raise inferno in case people don't get the expansion. So I'm fairly sure they'll never raise the cap.
No they won't. Inferno is just all the content, with every monster 1 level above you. It would be very easy to keep Normal, nightmare, hell, inferno. If you buy the exp and level to (let's say 70) every time you go into inferno, the monsters level would be 71. If you're still level 60, then they would be 61. They don't need a new difficulty mode, because that's what the new content in the expansion pack will be.
Then people who buy the expansion can never play with people who don't have it. It would divide the population in half and possibly kill the game.
The only way they could possibly raise the level cap, is to raise it for everyone, for free. It's not like a higher level cap would do anything. They could easily add new zones, skills, and new classes without touching the level cap.
What does everyone think a higher level cap would do? Make the game more grindy?
The level cap is not restricted to exactly 61 for the enemies to goes from 61-68 and the level cap increase for players will be at most 5 and it would not take long for them to tweak the ai to levels to 65-73.
People keep forgetting that blizzard will not have anything at all on the auction house from them no rares or legendarys so they will have to be found by us and sold by us and I know of I found a legendary item first run through it would take no less than another legendary item for me to part with it
