So last night it was said that beta invites were going out, and that people should be F5'ing their account pages to see if they got into the beta. So I was up until around 2am and between YouTube vids I would hit F5 on the account page. Then today I get on and it says OPT-in beta invites have not yet gone out, and then there's threads that say they have so I feel a little confused. Has the OPT-in beta started yet, or not?
I feel like there's a good bit of disinformation spreading around.
The beta has started, which blizzard then stated meant that the F&F beta was officially over, and that invites could start going out at any time. (Which to me isn't the meaning of 'beta starting') Some members of the press got in but as far as we have determined no one who opted-in has actually been invited yet. So don't bother F5 and wait until people are actually reporting that more than a negligible number of invites have gone out.

No one knows for sure. The going theory is that press has been invited, but no mere-mortals whose only hope is the opt-in have been invited.
Edit: OR Blizzard invited about 10 people via opt-in just to say "Yes, invites to opt-ins HAVE gone out".
You could just take a sec and read blizzards main page for this... "Invitations to participate in the beta test are now being delivered to the chosen heroes"
That was made earlier today.
They may have said that but there are no reports of people getting in aside from a few members of the press/media. It was also posted yesterday. He clearly did read it and was confused by the disconnect between that information and what he saw on the forums. He even stated that he read that last night. Maybe you could take a sec and read his entire post?

Hmm who to trust? Blizzard or some random guys saying noone got in... hmm thats a hard one.
It's not "some random guy". It's everybody. No-one has seen any posts made by opt-in only people saying they got in (aside from 1 or 2 trolls)
If more than an extremely small amount of people got in via opt-in, we'd be seeing lots and lots of posts saying so.
Not to mention the fact that people that have been in the F&F have seen an increase of only 5-10 people online since the invites have gone out. That, as well, supports the theory that either the invites went out to only press, or to press and about 10 others.
I hope they send some public invites out today. If they don't start going out throughout the next 4 or 5 hours we may have to wait until thursday or friday D:
I think people should just stop saying opt-ins didn't get in yet, because people are only trolling them, like I got trolled. We aren't just saying it because we ourselves didn't get invites. Its literally because no one opted-in got an invite (or a small number)

Went outside today, the graphics were ok. But the gameplay sucked
not sure why you thought there would be someone at Blizzard sending out invites at 2AM..
they are just emails and account activations...can all be done automatically with a job scheduled to run overnight to spread out the server load
anyway I haven't seen any evidence that non-press/F&F have gotten in so they are probably still having meetings about what hardware profiles from the opt-in to prepare invites for

A small number no longer implies that "literally nobody has got in", now does it?
It's a pretty good assumption that not many have though, and an even better assumption that a very small fraction of this community will get one

I trust in the fact that humans in general are fairly boisterous individuals, and if enough people got a key they'd be more than happy to brag about it on the official forums. I don't trust the people saying no one got it, I trust my judgement and the general nature of people, especially when the majority are young males. Get a grip dude do you really think 1000 people would get invited and NO ONE would say anything?

For all we know, it could be 100 people . Only Blizzard knows that, and they already said they're not telling.
I'm confident the closed beta test has started, they have actually invited new people (from opt-in as well), not many - probably less than 5k, these guys are too busy playing and enjoying the game to actually post. Some posted in the official forums and got discredited (believed to be F&F trolls) since there's so few people and we don't know how many invites, some don't even know what "posting in forums" mean.
And the reason Blizzard isn't saying anything about how many invites, and how many waves they're sending, is to try and prevent the whole "key begging" in the forums (which massively happened in SC2 and totally ruined the official forums for a while) from immature lads that cannot handle the fact that only a handful will be able to test the game.
So, I'll cautiously provide a little insight in the hopes it doesn't make you sad.

Are the invites done today?
This is something we aren't likely to answer during the beta test. Ever. I know everyone's aching for a piece of the Diablo III action, but the testing process won't be well served if the forums are flooded daily with questions about beta invite waves. There is no predetermined schedule for the rate at which players get invited to test the game.
The Blizzard folk who are monitoring the concurrency trend of people online and playing, as well as the stability of the game servers, will do waves of invites as needed. When I say "as needed," I mean when the servers are stable and we're comfortable with the room we have to get more people in the game. We won't do waves of invites if we feel our infrastructure at any given time can't handle an increased concurrency.
Beyond that, there's really only an extra morsel of information -- small though it may be -- I can provide as to when invites might go out. They'll go out, as I said before, when we're comfortable with increasing concurrent players online. And they'll typically go out during standard business hours (9 a.m. - 6 p.m. Monday - Friday, North American Pacific time).
For those who make it in, I really hope you enjoy it as much as I do. We look forward to hearing your feedback. For those who don't make it in quickly, stay tuned for more information on other giveaways and promotions. Just try not to drive yourself crazy waiting to get in. Ultimately, this is just a test of a very small portion of the game to prepare us for the official launch, when everyone can play the full game!
One last thing:
WTB Blue Post
Threads shouldn't be directed at Blizzard employees. We frown upon it. The forums should be a place where players can discuss topics with one another, and sometimes with Blizzard employees. We don't want forum threads created, directed at us, just to get our attention. It disrupts the flow of the forums. I know it seems ironic this thread got my attention and I've responded, but I'm only doing so in the hopes we don't see a repeat of this thread tomorrow, and the next day, and the next day, and...

Sadly, I could see them doing this :\

I haven't seen that said anywhere, but that doesn't mean it's not true. Do you remember when/where you read that?
I tell myself I'm only going to check once an hour between 9AM and 6PM... but I find myself checking every 10 minutes or so lol.

It would seem the consensus is that it has not yet started. Thanks for calming my worries
But I will probably still F5 every once in a while

They're stress-testing that 2400 baud-hosted server! Give them a break!
