I was wondering if in multiplayer there if there is a way to see another players equipment?
In D2 we used the trade window to show “WUG”. But really this was not the intended function of the trade window.
I remember in Wow that you can see peoples gear by inspecting them somehow.
So is their going to be the ability to see another players gear?
Is seeing other peoples gear a good or bad thing?
• Do you want other people knowing what gear you have?
• Do you want to know what gear other people have?
I can seem to recall for Diablo II there was an "inspect" option more or less for one of the maphacks or something like that. Would like to see it as an official feature.
I really don't want people to know what gear I have unless they go to great lengths to find out. Same goes for builds and everything else. If the person didn't write a guide for it, you shouldn't know about it.
I agree with Equinox.
Creating/testing differnt builds based on personal thoughts/strategy is what i like about D3
I also wouldnt like all my hard work of developing awesome builds to be easily seen and copied by others.
I'm not sure but I reckon the inspect feature from WoW will be there.
WoW's customization is pretty primitive and limited (players are mostly forced into the same build), so it's really not a good game to compare to. I hope Blizzard realizes that one size doesn't fit all...
I think it would make life easier. Rather than explain all of my gear to my friend, then trying to compare, we can just use the inspect button. Maybe you could disable it for PvP but I don't really care if anyone sees my "trade secrets".
Im guessing you can look at another players gear in game, with the acception that there will be an option to make it so other players cannot see your gear if you don't want them to
This makes perfect sense.

This would be a feature I'd love to have. The same could go for skills, skill runes, and just about any other attribute on your character. There could be an open to the public option, and a closed option. That would be great
“We act as though comfort and luxury were the chief requirements of life, when all that we need to make us happy is something to be enthusiastic about.” - Albert Einstein
Either way it will be fairly easy for experienced players to recognize many of your items based on their looks and certain bonuses (like a fire aura that is specific for a certain item).
I think that's fine. I consider that natural inspection. Same with watching what skills a character uses and the like.
It's the mechanical inspection that gives you all their gear and build on a plate is what I dislike.
I feel like it can go both ways and having the option to show it mechanically or not is definitely a plus but, I'd argue that people knowing your build and gear doesn't make them as good as you if that is indeed what you are. I know wow is a bad example in general because of the lack of customization compared to D3 but, how many cookie cutter builds do people copy from each other in WoW yet there are people who use it so well as oppose to those who are exactly alike yet just suck or is not as good. Builds and gear is important but there are so many different elements such as resource management, positioning, teamwork, reflex time, etc. that set you apart. The same can be said about SC and build orders/strats. Just cause you have stuff at your disposal doesn't mean it gets used or used effectively for that matter. If blizzard can accomplish something like that again then I don't see it being a huge problem. Besides if people are checking you out, they are obviously interested, so be flattered and know that you are teaching other people something. In addition, for those who are at the insepcting end.. those who may be less experienced at the game, might just be looking for some guidance or just to look at others' awesomeness.. this game is suppose to be cooperative right? haha anyway we are all entitled to our opinions... apologies for the ramble.

I'd argue that people knowing your build and gear doesn't make them as good as you if that is indeed what you are.
This is not a good argument.
It's not about whether they're good or not, it's about cookie cutting, builds being stolen, people knowing what your weaknesses are, etc. Diablo isn't really about PvP for me, so I don't care who's good or who isn't good, it's really not what I'm talking about at all.
I don't want people getting info on a character on a plate, period. It has nothing to do with how good they are and I could care less. But the constant inspecting people will do will muddle the build market very quickly.

Builds and gear is important but there are so many different elements such as resource management, positioning, teamwork, reflex time, etc.
Dumb people in WoW doesn't really change anything. WoW is a very easy game, the reason there are people who can't manage resources or position themselves properly is because there are too many of them and there's bound to be a really bad or lazy player when there's a lot of people involved. This is not the case here.
A good player who did not devise a specific build will be able to use someone else's build pretty effectively, it really doesn't take that long to adapt to a build, and people who can't use someone else's build have issues. It sets apart the braindead and the OK but I don't find that to be worth mentioning.
It's going to make builds get outside faster and the game will get muddled with cookie cutting much faster. If you ask me that's something we want to deter because every pally being a hammerdin is boring.
Besides if people are checking you out, they are obviously interested, so be flattered and know that you are teaching other people something.
How about you don't tell me how to feel about a feature?
Flattered? Really? In a video game?
You realize some people are just gonna inspect everyone in sight right?
In addition, for those who are at the insepcting end.. those who may be less experienced at the game, might just be looking for some guidance or just to look at others' awesomeness...
Cooperative? Guidance? Send a whisper, ask a question. Don't use a lousy tool to inspect my build and gear without my permission. Cooperative? You don't know what this leads to, do you? Did you even play WoW? You know what happens in WoW? "Your build/spec is wrong we don't want you in our guild/raid". Doesn't sound very cooperative to me.
First off, there is no reason to be so defensive over what I've said. I'm not trying to tell you what to do. how to play the game or anything like that. I'm just sharing what I think about the topic. My apologies if you felt like I was instructing you how to feel about a feature or if I have offended you somehow because you surely seem like I have. It appears that you are passionate about the topic or just an angry person but I do see what your saying. I suppose our perspective is quite different. I see it as a community and I don't mind sharing what I know and what I have whereas you see it as something yours and very personal, which has its benefits and is great as well. I do agree that builds may be as you so well put it, muddled quickly if in general we are all allowed to see everyone's build. However, I also think that it would promote people to try other things and maybe that won't be such a bad thing. Or maybe the whole situation will be terrible and they'll change it or not have the feature to inspect at all. Perhaps having the option to show it, not to show it, or to let certain people see it, like others have said, would possibily satisfy most people. Overall, you make validate points. I just hope in the future your delivery would be more friendly and not so demeaning. I'm here to learn as much as I can about the game so your opinion, in this case, is mostly appreciated, thanks.

Don't like my games ruined by thoughtless suggestions. Open inspection would be horrible for Diablo III.
@maka
I have not used the term noob anywhere in this thread. That was attached to me. If wanting some privacy in regards to my character is being conceited, then so be it. If wanting people to make their own builds instead of copy those of others is being conceited, so be it. All I said was that I don't want people having an easy way to see what I have or what anyone else has. Discussions, questions, inquiries are still open. If you look at my earlier posts none of them are angry and they're rather neutral. I only get angry when someone tries to shove a bad feature down my throat pretending it's a good feature.
@deliciousgook
If you want me to be more friendly you may want to adapt the rules of proper division of paragraphs, since reading the mess of a post that you have there is very frustrating for me, especially with the occasional missing capital letter. But, I guess you can call me an "angry" person, since I generally talk like this but it doesn't really mean anything except that I type like this and that I'm arrogant to some vague degree. Don't mind me.
I don't have an issue sharing what I know. But when people share, they make a choice. If someone just inspects me, I didn't have a choice in the matter. If I'm going to share something I did, I'm not going to do it like that. I'll go to a website and write a proper guide with all the details and explanations of how to use it. I don't want my builds presented in any other way. (I doubt I will devise any good builds tbh, though) This means people will have to talk to me directly and go to a website (like Diablofans) to see what I have to say. It's not just an empty, cold, mechanical "inspect" button that instantly tells you nearly everything.
Please tell me: what does the feature add that voluntary sharing doesn't? Nothing except people copying unfinished and undeveloped builds or people copying builds some may want to keep to themselves. I'd imagine PvPers would want to keep their builds very, very private, but I'm not a PvPer so I wouldn't know.
People try things LESS when there are builds out there. What happens is you have a set of cookie cutter builds and everyone flocks to them. This will happen in Diablo III inevitably, but giving an inspect feature will compound the issue since people would inspect every time they see someone being effective.
If there are options to not show it then I am not arguing against it (default option being the closed option). I am arguing specifically against the involuntary sharing of my character's information.
I can almost guarantee you that there will at least be an armory-type thing on the community site where you can look up players gear, skills, traits, and any other build aspects. In a game where 90,000,000,000 + builds are possible, people will want to know what builds people are using.

Despite Equinox’s possible tone, I tend to agree with his comments.
Playing D3 for hours on end, developing good builds and equipment... I would feel like I have earned those things. I would also feel a little annoyed (like equinox does) if people could in 2 seconds inspect me and have a blue print that they can choose to copy.
I sort of want people to figure out all those things themselves. I would also think that Blizzard would also want this to happen as it promotes replay ability a lot more. Even if that means rerolling bad builds...you learn from your mistakes.
Learning from other peoples hard work could be considered a shortcut within the game experience or design intent?
Then again, some people have different desires in games and some people probably don’t want to work out all the strategy/different builds and just get a blue print and be awesome as fast as possible.
I personally however, would not want to supply the blue print to them.
A toggle option for allowing the inspection of your character does seem like the best option that would best address both sides of the argument
I can almost guarantee you that there will at least be an armory-type thing on the community site where you can look up players gear, skills, traits, and any other build aspects.
This is specifically what I'm very, very afraid of and why I'm riled up about the issue.
In a game where 90,000,000,000 + builds are possible, people will want to know what builds people are using.
EVE Online does not have an inspect feature of any sort.
But, there are websites like Battleclinic where people put up their builds (fittings) for all to see.
You can write a post on the forums and people will give you advice.
Some people just exchange fits in corporation chats and the like.
The amount of builds EVE has is probably comparable to Diablo III. Lack of an armory or inspect feature doesn't mean people have no building information. It just means it will only be done voluntarily.
EVE thus has a very healthy building environment where people still make new fits on a regular basis and nothing is ever useless or the best.
I think the difference is that Blizzard has moved on from what they used to be to a company that wants to offer any services you need, by them.
Things like d2jsp being replaced by an in-game trade system. Even the wow forums link to two other sites with all of the info you need so they can know and trust the information given by these sites.
Blizzard doesn't want people going to some random site to get info on their game.

Blizzard has complete 100% knowledge of what every player has. It's just not a proper comparison. A player-made compilation of all players will always be significantly more limited, and that is the point.
Things like d2jsp being replaced by an in-game trade system.
This comparison is completely invalid. d2jsp is a faulty system that was present simply because Diablo II did not have an economy. Diablo III doesn't need an economy to replace d2jsp, Diablo III needs an economy period. It's a rather essential feature, unlike the armory, which is NOT needed at all.
Blizzard doesn't want people going to some random site to get info on their game.
This is not true. Blizzard supports various websites providing information about WoW, such as ElitistJerks. The pitiful amount of information about the game in-game in the case of WoW proves that. In fact, Blizzard expects you to go to all these websites, EJ, WoWhead, youtube, that's why they do not provide anything in game. I'm sorry but that statement is clearly false.
