The skill system of fine, it's the skill UI that is a nightmare. They took something simple that makes sense and made it more confusing under the flag of easy to play hard to master.
It was cool seeing Jay's reaction to the communities reaction. People gave Sixen a lot of crap for asking a bunch of questions concerning the reveal of the second implementation of the rune system (with random affixes) during an interview but he was soooooo right for doing so and props to him for bearing the burden of shouldering that flag for us right off the bat cause that would have been freaking awful.
Jay is still very wrong. We will ALL remember how long it took to put this game out, it may not affect whether we buy the game or not, but we will surely remember this as the bad version of a classic 'Blizzard' project. And the fact that they couldn't even put out a simple pvp system even with all the suggestions the community gave them really speaks to how terrible their management and design methods are.
I'll bet you anything that the game will never be remembered as a "bad version of a classic 'Blizzard' project", whatever that means. Sure the system has a few significant flaws in it's current shape, but it's painfully obvious that Diablo 3 will come out to universal acclaim.
Everything that matters the most - works. Gameplay wise it's almost perfect, the atmosphere and the music are both amazing and the graphics/cinematics we've seen so far are pure art. I don't even really need to mention replayability, because Diablo trumps almost every other non MMO (and most current MMO-s) game with ease in that category. Once they patch in PvP and by the time the first expansion rolls out, I don't think there'll be much sensible problems for a reasonable person left to complain about.

I actually already find myself no longer caring that it was once delayed... o.o
Could be. I just assumed they were asking about the skill UI overhaul since it's such a hot topic recently, epecially when they word the question "What prompted the latest skill system overhaul?"
You, Sir, are wrong with everything you said in this thread! Of course they are not talking about the UI, who cares about that?!
Can't tell if being sarcastic…
Lots of people care about the skill UI change. It's been talked about (really it's been complained about) since they changed it.
I still find the wording of the question curious if they are talking about the change from skill trees to just getting your skills as you level. There was only one change from skill trees to how we get skills now, so why ask about the latest skill system overhaul?
Maybe they just worded it wrong, but to me and (hopefully) the rest of the English-speaking world, using "latest" is predicated upon having a series of things; not just one.

No, sir.
It's a Blizzard game. Blizzard games take a shitload of time to be done. Probably that is the reason why Blizzard games aren't crap. It wasn't a terrible move from Blizzard, it was terrible impatience from the community.
When I saw posts like "OMFG BLIZZADR IDIOTS IM NOT BUYING GAME YOU POSTPONED IT CYA NERDS HOPE YOUR HOUSES BURN" I really wanted to cry.
EDIT: Ghazuk is totally right.
they implement things in the beta that shouldn't have even left the brainstorming session. game would have been out sooner had the understood some ideas were just bad from the get go.

I have no proof of that, but I don't care. It's not like the talent and skill system are the same flavor or anything. Call my bluff. I dare you.
Maybe Diablo 3's expansion will be better off now that they learned more about game design over 6 years. Who knows.
Genius.
Although I thought you meant Secret of Evermore when I first read that. lol...
