Blizzard just announced that there won't be any Blizzcon in 2012, but tournaments will happen as planned during the Battle.net World Championship.

Blizzard Entertainment is proud to announce the 2012 Battle.net World Championship, a major global eSports event featuring some of the best pro-gaming competition in the world. Slated to take place in Asia toward the end of 2012, the Battle.net World Championship will host this year’s StarCraft II and World of Warcraft Arena World Championship tournaments. Blizzard gamers and eSports fans from around the world will be invited to attend and witness some of the most skilled pro players on the planet battle it out for cash and glory.
We’re excited to be showcasing Blizzard eSports on a truly global stage this year. We're also heavily focused on getting Diablo III, Mists of Pandaria, and Heart of the Swarm into players’ hands as soon as possible. In light of our jam-packed schedule, we’ve decided to hold the next BlizzCon in 2013.
More details about the 2012 Battle.net World Championship and BlizzCon 2013, including specific dates and locations, will be coming in the months ahead.
Damn it, figures. I go to my first Blizzcon in 2011 and decide to go every year after... and now we have to wait >< Wait a second.. Didn't the mayans predict this?!
IAH if they think it will help them get their games out sooner it's all good =D
'Tis a shame. I love watching and reading about the stuff that comes out of Blizzcon, but if not holding one this year really will help them out with their schedule for releasing the upcoming games... /crossfingers
At least they're "heavily focused on getting Diablo III, Mists of Pandaria, and Heart of the Swarm into players’ hands as soon as possible." Can't complain about that...
Diablo 3 and possibly MoP will be released before Blizzcon so there will be only Starcraft being talked about at Blizzcon, whats the point of having it then?

Best news yet. I'm all for Blizz-Con, but getting D3 into our grubby hands is a priority (for me anyway)

Makes sense really. I would imagine and am hopeful that Diablo 3, MoP, and Heart of the Swarm would be out by October. Not sure about Heart of the Swarm haven't looked at it as I've only recently picked up SC .. but watching last years blizzcon I thought to myself.."what are they gonna talk about next year?" Talk about patches? Who cares.
Blizzard just cancelled one of their strongest links they had with the community.
Blizzcon is where developers get their chance to present what they've been working on and get valuable feedbacks from the community. It's just a shame they have decided to cancel it.
Metzen said during the Blizzcon 2010: "We didn't have any new release to announce but, you know, the community needs it."
somewhat dissapointed, but ultimately I'm not bothered by it. Once I have D3 in hand, Im good. I wont really care about BlizzCon until they have the first news for D3's first expansion, which by 2013 I suspect we will hear something about it. I'm just happy they are entirely focused on the game releases. That is what is most important.

Truly disappointing. Rest in peace.
