I go with the glass cannon / magic find build. I have about 170mf with about 80k damage w/ SS. My glass cannon without magic find build is at 101k damage.
I recommend just going glass cannon. I've never really seen a DH survive a hit unless you have ridiculous resist/hp which makes your damage ridiculously low.
It is probably possible to get enough resists, armor and vitality to not get oneshot in the later acts, but it will not be easy to achieve (you will really need very, very good gear all tailored toward defense to make any difference). It will also come at the expense of damage stats, which will make it hard, perhaps nigh impossible to kill anything of value. I haven't put too much effort into gearing my demon hunter after I cleared diablo pre-SS-nerf (when we were pretty broken), but because of the sheer amount of gear you'll need to go from getting 1-hit to 2-hit to multi-hit, I'd suggest going with glasscannon and play dodgeball.
I'm currently at 600 resist all 108k dps, 29k hp. I don't get one shot often, unless its some mean mob, but I do get 2 shot. I think a good place to be with resists as a dh is 700. You don't need to sacrafice dps to have high resists. Just find all the gear with high resists and high dex. The only place you really lose dps are rings/neck/gloves. Thats the place where it's a toss up. Only my rings and gloves have resistance. There are gloves out there with everything, but they cost about 50million.
I am up to diablo atm. With my current resists he either 1 or 2 shots me depending on luck. I'm pretty sure another 100 resists all will go a long way. There is a pretty big difference between getting 1 shot and 2 shot, as sad as that may sound.
On a side note, I did get to diablo as a glass cannon build. I prefer resists for farming, in long caves where making the slightest mistake causes you to run back for a minute.

So you're farming without any MF gear? It seem like you would be better off with dmg/mf if farming is your game, but that's just my opinion.

Glass cannon build for solo and team play.
46k hp, 240-360 resists, 66k dmg without sharpshooter.
I can take 1 hit from most mobs 2 from many in act3/4 (maybe not 2hits in act 4)
Just try to balance them all out.
the thing is, maybe if you go 4 pure dmg, you can kill them 50-100% faster. killing them faster there is less space 4 mistakes or just bad luck... so i dont think being a 2 hit target is worth loosing dmg :/
not necessarily, you can find gear with excellent dps and also excellent survivality, the thing is.... That gear is very expensive, and in a lot of cases, selling that item will grant you the chance to increase your dps is your gear is bad...

I've seen people get ridiculous damage with glasscannon builds, but I'm not sure I'm a fan of dying in one hit to every single mob.
A (mage) friend says resists are the way to go, but I've heard others say that resists/vit are useless for DHs past Act I or II Inferno.
Thoughts?
