I'm sure all of you have read through our Male Demon Hunter announcement/reveal article. We were all really excited about it and were really proud of the results. Today, the Male Demon Hunter decided to stop by Blizzard and land himself on the official class page.
However, while epic our interview was, we feel like there were two (and only two, :P) questions that could use a little bit of clarification. While we did still have this information in our article from our own interview, it seems as if they are a bit better laid out in the Gamespot interview, as seen below (the image is an added effect of ours).
GS: What types of skill trees are available to the hunter and what do they specialize in?
JB: The demon hunter is interesting in that it's the class with the most sort of duality. The fiction behind the demon hunter is that they're a little bit crazy about hunting demons--they're obsessed. But at the same time, they're really calculating and really precise, and they plan. So with their resources and their skill trees, we split their skills into the categories of discipline, including traps, preparation, things that take a lot of forethought, and hatred, which is the red-eyes insanity the fuels their high-powered burst attacks, alpha strikes, multishots, flame arrows, and things like that. [The demon hunter] really feels more visceral, and there's some interesting interplay in the resource system that allows you to switch back and forth between your discipline abilities and your hatred abilities. It's a little more complex and nuanced than some of the other classes; it's a class about precision and playing [one skill set] off the other.
GS: What sort of rune skill combinations are there for the demon hunter?
JB: Oh yeah, there's a bunch we've been playing with lately. With the runes, we always like to think about where the energy comes from. With the wizard, for example, you may have some runes that tend toward lighting or tend toward ice, and we try to do it that way in an elemental energy sense. But with the demon hunter, it has been interesting because we get to play off the backstory of him being obsessed with learning everything there is to know about demons and finding ways to use their own strengths against them. So we have some [runes] that focus on shadow and play with how the demon hunter adds shadow magic into certain [attacks], making them hone in, split into two when they hit a target, or bounce from one target to the next. Traps are also really fun. When you lay out a spike trap, there are a lot of different things you can do with runes, such as have shadow creatures or tendrils come out of them. You'll see a lot of really nasty and painful-looking attacks coming out of this character; he's pretty wicked.

In addition, i'm sure you've all already seen the unreleased images of Blizzard: North's Diablo III, from back in 2005. These images came about while we were very busy working on the Male DH announcement, so while this may be a bit late, it is never too late for news. If you want to discuss these images, head over here.
Still I wish the other characters were shown with higher level gear on like the Demon Hunter obviously is. But I guess in fairness when you choose the Necromancer in D2 he's being shown in high level gear too.
I love the look of the sleeves underneath his armor.
You know, there are some characters that you want to play as male, and some you want to play as female. But my first Demon Hunter will most certainly be Male. He looks so bad ass. I love his hood and I like the big arm pieces and shoulder pieces. I hope he is voice acted by a badass so it can fully complete this class' style.

I'm glad someone does. Personally, I think any costume that looks like it belongs in a Vegas show and cost more than a car to make doesn't fit in a gritty, depressing RPG universe.
The shoulders and forearm pieces are pretty out there, but when you look at them in screenshots they look pretty cool. In the end the isometric view kind of forces large armor pieces. Whenever I see the stuff up close (ie the Male DH or that Blizzcon armor set for the Male Wiz) it always seems like its a bit too much, but in screenshots/videos it always looks good imo.
That's a good point, and even if the concept art looks like Liberace-as-ranger, you do still want your guy to "pop" on the screen in the game if you've worked up to high-level armor.

I guess the barbarian is a mid level character too.
I think they need to rename some of these generic skill tabs with the attributes that were dropped, namely the dexterity attribute could be more relative to the class itself than "hatred". It could be a good way of keeping the old nostalgia from the previous games.
I wonder if the Demon Hunter will do extra damage to Demons.
There may be more weapons available to the Demon Hunter that add percentages to damage to demons. Just like there are other weapons that do more damage to the undead. D2 had both kinds of weapons and maybe you'd just see more of them for the Demon Hunter.
Can cats actually bend their arms like that (Referring to blocat's avatar), it looks painful and I don't think dogs can do it, so it seems natural for me to compare, and always assume cats' physical ability doesn't cover the bend of the arms.
Or does it has something to do with it being a baby kitten?
I'm kind of nerdy about pets sometimes, cats are secretly my favorite.
Sure if ordinary dude sounds like a good enough deal, and kill a lot of shit sounds like what you're going for.
The world of such as this just seems so much more to me to be associated with a mortal look of a character. I want something that looks like it's capable of super killing.

I think he looks awesome. He's not like the female one like someone said.
I love the look of the sleeves underneath his armor.

But that's just my opinion.

They're all mid-level until it looks like they are carrying the weight of a small car on one of their shoulders.
