I call this build TRIUMVIRATE or T1 because it uses 3 sets:
-Armor of Akkhan (5 pieces)
-Norvald's Fervor (2 pieces)
-Sage's Journey (2 pieces)
With just Akkhan and Norvald's Fervor set last season I was able to do:
-T13 Rift 3:20 (DOMINATION!-Season Journey-Guardian)
No augments, only 2 ancients gear pieces
-GR 84 13:04
No augments, no Conduit, only 3 ancients gear pieces, paragon level 762
- Why Akkhan and Norvald's Fervor combo is so strong?
When something increases your damage by 100% it multiplies your damage by 2.
So: 100% is x2 multiplier, 200% is x3 multiplier, 300% is x4 multiplier and so on...
6 piece set bonus from Armor of Akkhan set increases your damage by 600%(x7 multiplier )
2 piece set bonus from Norvald's Fervor set increases your damage by 100%(x2 multiplier )
- Why Akkhan and Norvald's Fervor combo is so strong?
Those multipliers are global(they are not additive, but multiplicative),
so your dmg is not x9 but x2 x 7= x14
This is same as running with 13 ancients with LoN combo 13x100%=1300%
1300%= x14 same as x2 x 7= x14
What Sage's Journey set brings to the build?
Sage's Journey
(3) Set:
Increases Death's Breath drops by 1.
every time Elite, Rift Guardian or Boss drops Death's Breaths the number of Death's Breath drops will be increased by 1.
Since you get 2-3 Death's Breaths per drop on T13, now you will be getting 3-4 Death's Breaths
That is 33-50% increase on T13-on lover difficulties is much more!!!
You will end up with around 50 Death's Breaths per T13 Rift.
3.Conclusion:
Although LoN brings more DMG, once you start one shooting elites with TRIUMVIRATE build
you will not see the difference except maybe on Rift Guardian. You might need one more bomb strike with TRIUMVIRATE build.
The only true difference that you will notice is how much Death's Breaths you get with TRIUMVIRATE build.
This is why TRIUMVIRATE build is most efficient build for T13 Rifts!!!
The build is perfect for seasonal players-NO ANCIENTS are required for build to function on T13!!!
- THE BUILD - TRIUMVIRATE (Akkhan/ Norvald's/Sage's combo)
early, mid and late game setups
Ring of Royal Grandeur is required to get 6 piece bonus from Armor of Akkhan set and 3 piece bonus from Sage's Journey set.
Stat priorities on equipment:
-Thorns as a secondary stat
-CDR % (55.6%+ is ideal)
-Area DMG %
-Bombardment DMG%
"Must-have" passive skills:
-Iron Maiden
-Heavenly Strength
-Lord Commander
High CDR is very important for this build. 55.6%+ is ideal. Try to be as close as you can to that number because you want 100% uptime on Akarat's Champion. You can run with less CDR because of In-geom procs.
Laws of Hope "Wings of Angels" + Long Arm of the Law will help you move quicker from elite pack to next elite pack.
In early game Harrington Waistguard is really good.
Once you pick up more DMG the Strongarm Bracers are more consistent if you are able to one shoot elites - mid game setup.
Once you start one shooting elites without Strongarm Bracers than go with the Gloves of Worship(aka shrine gloves) - mid game setup.
If you are high paragon level and/or fully augmented go with an Avarice Band + Boon of the Hoarder combo. You will have more speed / pickup radius - late game setup.
Also you could use swap Akarat's Champion "Prophet" rune for Akarat's Champion " Rally" rune for more Bombardment casts. - late game setup.

Great build and guide, very thorough! I changed it up just a bit since I am having a hard time getting a second Unity ring in Season. I used an Aquila Cuirass in lieu of the Gloves of Worship since this is not a resource build and it also offers 50% DR. Doing this also allowed me to run a CoE in the cube for a nice nuke bonus on Physical rotation since I had a decent RoRG. My CDR is quite low though at about 37% but as long as you find an kill Elite packs the In Geom more than makes up for it. 55.xx% is really only needed if you are wanting Akkarats up all the time without the aid of In Geom's effect. (*edit* just noticed you mentioned this )
I just blew through a TX rift trying it out and it was a cake walk so I will probably run it at T13 next to see how I do. My gear is by no means great and missin some rolls but overall not bad. You can look at my setup here, http://us.battle.net/d3/en/profile/Erekan-1723/hero/83717049 .
Hey, folks! if you like this build and wants to make it better, pls upvote my post here: click. Changing 2-hander to 1-hander in the Norvald's set gives us NOT-mandatory passive choise!
I play a variant of this as strictly a DB and gold farming build. Avarice Band and Boon of the Hoarder as mentioned above, but then Goldwrap instead of Belt of the Trove. You forgo the bombing, but with as much gold as is being flung around, you're virtually invincible as long as you pay attention to mob density.
Hi! is this still viable for S10?
yes
For speed farm you could go with thorns, but in high GRs, CDR is essential for CoE physical rotation.(60-61%+CDR)
Been trying to run T13 with this build, it really doesn't seem viable for "speed" runs. Takes me quite a while to take down elites, end up taking ~8minutes to clear.
Unsure how it would compare with LoN bombardment, but as of right now, T10 is really what I can manage.
Any Bombardment build should be run at difficulty where you can kill elites with 1 Bombardment cast. LoN does more damage. Since I have enough damage, there is no point for me to run LoN when I can get 1 extra DB with this build. Check out this video(0:54 in video) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AnWU8yxCjsE&t=268s That is without Sage's Journey set.
Its a bit ruff with lower level gems. 35s right now. Not bad on t11 though. When's the breaking point for t12 and t13.

Tnx. HoI gives you around 10% to damage (around 16k thorns and your base thorns is around 160k - without Iron Maiden passive skill). If you want more consistent/higher dmg buff, go with Strongarms.
THIS! I played the Akhan Shield build and was impressed for a time, but it started to lose the ability to really progress in a meaningful manner for me. Then played the Akhan Condemn build and though I was getting excellent kill power vs. elites, I was beginning to feel the pain of only hunting elites. So I was looking on perhaps another take on it which took me to Angry Roleplayers' build. When he included your build which is a successful Triumvirate build...I was highly intrigued. The Norvald's set is one of the things I had stored away.
This build, your build here is already taking me faster through the content and I am still at a lowly 494 paragon! I can hardly wait to get this crusader to the power benchmarks you have set with this build. Thank you!
Tnx!!! And this was before Akkhan set was buffed.
I just THOUGHT I was enjoying this build. Today however I achieved CDR of 55.37.
Now I understand the true joy of this build. Think I can maybe get another point or two out of this gear and work out the 55.6 you stated is ideal. Now I can fully see why.
Update: 56.3. Just rerolled my CDR on my Sage Gloves.
I have it to 58.71, but my cube armor slot is still Leoric's crown to get my helmet diamond's CDR doubled.
If I switch to the Gloves of Worship CDR is 51.71. Still trying to eek some more from armor so I can incorporate those longer lasting shrines. Looks like that could be pretty incredible.
