This is a build I am using for mid to higher level greater rifts (gem-leveling). It is best for players who are P-800+ as there is no need to worry about stat priority beyond increasing your primary stat. However, I've included stat priorities as a courtesy - but feel free to adjust as you see fit.
For legendary gems, I use Bane of the Stricken, Bane of the Trapped and Gogok. Gogok ends up yielding more damage than Simplicity's Strength as it allows for stacking of attack speed and dodge. This equates to overall higher throughput and more defensive bonuses. The build is performing fairly well at GR70 and I am looking at pushing it a little higher if at all possible.

Build Guide
Edit: Revised build for current content patch and to reflect changes made upon passing P-1000. It is viable at lower levels of paragon, but at P-1000 GR70 is somewhat trivial. In this level of GR, the build can "face-tank" nearly all mobs and RG's. This is due to mostly everything being constantly stunned or frozen.
I've really been tweaking and testing this build over the past two days to see what it can do in terms of damage. Spectral Blades with Shame of Delsore and Fragment of Destiny is great for applying and maintaining stacks of Gogok. It is also VERY nice for getting Paralysis procs due to the very HIGH attack speed.
Wizard has been my favorite class for years . But Blizzard pissed me off with the Twister Swami and Twisted sword nerf . Monk is my new fav. But I may try this build . Working in cooldown reduction is always a pain at least for me. What is your cooldown % and Im using 100 level gems for augmentation and in sockets . That being said . What level Greater Rift are pushing . Thanks
Hi Rob!
I've been up and down with D3 and kind of cycle through my games. This semester was a bit of a change for me and I started seasons with a colleague of mine; however, I will be backing off a bit in autumn to re-commence my dissertation efforts (hence the "Doc" in my moniker). I enjoy this build, but it's been a bit frustrating lately...as I run into one of two problems: a) sufficient damage and insufficient damage mitigation; or sufficient damage mitigation and insufficient damage.
I am going to be revising the build a bit as I continue to test it out, but in this iteration it will hit a wall around GR70. It is likely that Wand of Woh will likely have to be removed from the build in favor of a Fragment of Destiny...and thus moving the OID to the weapon slot of the Kanai Cube. From there, I will likely be equipping an Aquila Cuirass and the Tal Rasha's Unwavering Glare. It means less explosions, but solves the problems I've been having lately with the build.
I'm running at P850 without augmentations on (all) my gear (though most of it is ancient) and level 65 gems all the way around. I've reached 46% CDR and I'd imagine at 50-60% I'd see greater uptime on DS: Enduring Skin...though I must admit it isn't off for very long at all. I will post any updates to the build as it undergoes a revision this week. However, if you find greater strength in higher level gems and augmentations, please let me know - as I have hope that it might be viable with greater paragon/gem levels. I quite like the setup and even if it is sub-optimal, it's how I prefer to play my wizard - which consequently is similar to my R6 generator monk.
Build updated for its current iteration clearing GR72 at P885 and minimal augmentations. Legendary gems are at level 70 and it is likely the build can work its way into the 80's or higher if enough paragon/gem levels are obtained and more augmentations are put on gear. So far, so good.
Build revised to include Gogok of Swiftness - which increases both DPS and toughness once it reaches 15 stacks. Extending the buff is fairly simple considering you can use Blizzard to reach mobs before you start your attack.
Still playing around with this one at the moment, just crushed a GR70 in 9:00 flat. I'd like to see what it can do at higher levels. I've considered moving Illusionist out of the build in favor of Evocation, but I really like having the resets it provides to keep the stuns coming. Else, I may change out Blizzard...but again, having everything being constantly stunned, paralyzed or frozen is making things very easy.
Edit: Kept Illusionist, but dropped Galvanizing Ward. Also, changed out Blizzard: Frozen Solid for Frost Nova: Frozen Mist. This makes it easier to re-position when necessary to continue spamming SB. The key with this build is getting Paralysis Procs to line up with the meteors dropping from the Tal Rasha set, while at the same time resetting EB as quickly as possible from the ORotZ. Cleared GR75 with this build so far...it could use a bit more damage.
This build seems to run out of steam past GR-80. It is a fun build to play around with, but it is not going to make a lot of progress on the leaderboard.
