Vyr's Arcana focuses around the use of Archon form. Since the set gives the effect of all runes, the Archon Pure Power rune was chosen as it synergizes with Arcane Torrent Discharge which is also lightning. Discharge is chosen because it has a high PPM and maximizes the number of enemies hit with arcane power spent. Ring of the Zodiac quickly resets the Archon cooldown with frequent hits. Frost Nova Deep Freeze is chosen because it augments the Halo of Arlyse freeze, which effectively adds 10% crit. Since Archon stacks provide increased defense and damage, The Swami allows the benefit of that damage and toughness to continue long enough after Archon expires to substantially reduce its cooldown. Aether Walker is important as it prevents Zodiac from proccing on Teleport, and it also allows a more reliable escape and quick movement. It is important to wait until 20 stacks of Chantodo's Will before activating Archon again. With good density it is entirely possible to have Archon available within 1 or 2 seconds of it running out, but the majority of your damage comes from the Wave of Destruction that Chantodo's Will provides, so make sure you have 20 stacks before entering Archon. This build has only been tested for solo play, play at your own risk in groups!
You will want to channel Arcane Torrent as long as possible to stack Chantodo's before entering Archon form. From this point forward you are in god mode and your main focus is to continue rolling Archon stacks. Always be moving forward and looking for targets to hit to continue gaining stacks. You will largely be playing in melee spamming 1 and Left Click and allowing your Wave of Destruction to hit as much as possible. Right Click can be used to pull more groups but the attack speed from stacks is much more powerful with the melee attacks. It is important to balance a synergy with always staying on the move and still maintaining The Traveler's Pledge buff if you choose to use it. Remember that Wave of Destruction is your hardest hitting move, and when you are not in Archon you are building stacks for your next Archon. Remember that Teleport does not drop stacks of your Traveler's Pledge.
Update: As was mentioned in the comments - if you're having trouble with keeping your AP up coming out of Archon you could try swapping out Force Weapon with other skills such as Spectral Blade. Force Weapon is NOT a required skill in this build, it is purely there for the added defense from the shield. If you can get by without the shield, feel free to change it.
Update 2: I've been trying an alternate version of this build around fire damage. You replace Force Weapon with Spectral Blade Flame Blades and change Archon to Combustion. Spectral Blades add Chantodo's stacks VERY quickly with 100+ Archon stacks, and I've been finding that this is more consistent in all levels of density. You alternate between spamming Spectral Blade and Arcane Torrent to gain stacks/reset Archon form. Feel free to give it a shot!
Most of the items in this build are not interchangeable, however, the Compass Rose can be substituted for a Convention of Elements for higher burst damage. I prefer a static increase as it is more reliable, but Convention may work better for different play styles. Halo of Arlyse coupled with Ancient Parthenon Defenders provides a massive survival boost, but Defenders could be swapped out with Strongarm Bracers for a minor dps boost in Archon form as the Archon melee attack is a knockback - this is definitely not recommended for higher level grifts.
Aether Walker can be changed with Fulminator in the cube. Fulminator provides a massive damage boost with this build, but you lose some movement and escape without Aether Walker.
Pain Enhancer could be subbed with Esoteric Alteration for higher survivability.
CDR or Vit for the helm - if you have enough CDR that you can enter Archon before Swami stacks run out then feel free to use Vit gem.
Yellow gems for standard socket, green gem for weapon.
This build was originally posted at http://www.icy-veins.com/d3/wizard-vyr-archon-patch-2-4 and they provide much more in-depth information.
Quin69 has a great guide for Season 4, the build has remained largely unchanged going into Season 5: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=b4FyIhI7wHQ
I prefer DiabloFans layout so I copied it here, and I also modified it a bit as some of the choices didn't make much sense.
Thanks for posting, and for pointing out the original post.
Should be updated to show them now, for some reason half of them got erased. Sorry about that!
Definitely not getting this build... can't even TX with it... I'm basically instantly and permanently out of AP the second I come out of Archon the first time...
This build fails pretty hard at low density because there's not enough mobs to keep rolling Archon stacks. It grows in power equally with the number of mobs you can hit - if you're running out of AP before Archon is back you may not have enough CDR. You should only have to channel long enough to gain 20 stacks of Chantodo's before entering Archon again.
Edit: I don't know why I didn't think of this before, but if you're having troubles with AP (it's because your stacks give you insane attack speed so it drains your AP near instantly) then you could try Electrocute with Lightning Blast or Shock Pulse with Piercing Orb. Those won't drain AP and still have pretty high number of enemies hit for free.
I haven't completed gathering all the items for the build, but I actually enjoy it. Archon is not very popular in groups, which makes me stand out having unique abilities on screen. I don't want to play what everyone is playing.
I also think this build is better in groups, because you actually gain archon stacks when other people kill enemies. I don't have my 6 piece bonus active yet, but still I gain a lot of stacks when only attacking 1 enemy and my team members are killing other enemies in the vicinity, I don't know if this is a bug.
thanks for this guide I have completed one of the Years of War Conquest requirements.
I tried using gogok of celerity instead of pain enhancer and I think it worked better, as I could activate archon so fast that I could still be with the stacks from the previous morph.
