Build Guide
Video in the description is my first GR95 solo clear with 2:38 left at Paragon 1300ish with lvl 95-96 gems and lvl 90 enchants.
2.4.1 Update:
- Replaced Crown of the Primus with APD in cube.
- Replaced Esoteric Alteration with Bane of the Powerful.
Things to know about Energy Twister on console:
- It is possible to spam Spectral Blade (or any other spell) and Energy Twister simultaneously.
- Energy Twister is always cast at your characters feet.
Item Notes:
- It is important to get at least 11 bonus AP on belt and 3-4 Arcane Power on Crit on source for maximum AP generation.
- Equip The Twisted Sword and cube Fragment of Destiny as wand auto attacks triggered from low AP will interrupt Spectral Blade spam.
- Belt/Legs bonus armor rolls can be replaced with Spectral Blade % for a small damage increase.
- Ancient Vitality is better then the 23% Life bonus from socketing an Amethyst in helm, roll the socket away if the option is available.
- CC reduction on Ring/Helm secondary affixes can greatly improve survivability.
- Replace Skill % damage or Area Damage rolls on gear with Vitality or Armor if playing on Hard Core.
Alternate Items:
- Replace CoE in cube with Unity if playing on Hard Core.
- Replace APD in cube with Ashnagarr’s Blood Bracers or Crown of the Primus.
Group Options:
- Replace Vitality and LoH on weapon with 10% damage and 24% area damage.
- Replace Ranslor's Folly with Ashnagarr’s Blood Bracers or Reapers Raps if your group finds it annoying.
Game Play:
- Hold down Spectral Blade to generate AP and shields; Energy Twister will group up and kill everything.
- Keep Ice Armor active, or you will die.
- Keep a Slow Time active at all times, or you will die.
- Use Explosive Blast on CD while in combat (it needs to do damage), or you will die.
- Continue to spam Spectral Blade and Energy Twister while moving between packs to keep shields and sword stacks up.
- Use Teleport as needed; keep Safe Passage up as much as possible when in combat.
Video is up.
I'm not going to argue about what is legit or not, only explain how i personally went about things.
Nealy all of my Legendary Gems were lvl 75-78 from a few months of 4man GR70-75 EXP farming before the patched dropped.
When 2.4 finally came online, i got on my wizard (only needing the Sword, Wand, Belt and Source which i crafted using stockpiled materials), and went as far as i could, getting my highest level gems to 80 along the way. When i could no longer consistently clear a rift, about GR84, i enchanted all of my gear with the stockpiled legendary gems, converting most of the regular gems i had into topaz in order to do it. While i probably should have waited and leveled them all up few more levels, I like nice even numbers and i was running low on GR keys anyway way, so i just went for it.
And there you have it; i have essentially consolidated all of my accounts accumulated gems and materials in to this single set for my wizard. My 3 gems are now lvl 90; I have cleared GR89 with 2:11 left, and i am finally working on GR90. If i get a rift full of corridors, enough low hp mobs to consistently spawn Nephalem Glory globes and a crap ton of elite packs, it will be done.
Update 1/16:
Changed Jewelry to the Endless Walk set + Halo cubing CoE.
Changed some vitality rolls to bonus Energy Twister damage.
GR 90 video added. Video Here.
Unity should be fine. CoE is a 1-3 GR levels at best. That said, dropping it does have a noticeable affect on Nephalem Glory up time.
While in combat the build is extremely tanky, but I do die a on occasion, usually from losing Explosive Blast stacks. Nearly all of my deaths are from getting gibbed between packs w/o explosive blast or slow time up and is why i switched to the Endless walk set and spam Spectral Blade even when moving.
The electrified affix is very nasty and the primary reason I'm wearing Esoteric Alteration over Pain Enhancer. Knock Back and Nightmarish are also dangerous as they can send you out of your bubble or cause you to miss with explosive blast.
Ranged/Teleporting rift guardians are very dangerous as they will in occasionally dodge your explosive blast in there attempt to get away leaving you vulnerable. Voracity, Eskandiel, Blighter and Rime are each an absolute nightmare, and not worth fighting.
Hope that helps clear things up.
How would a Fire build of this work?
With fire tornodos, cube Cindercoat.
Maybe cube other weapon too use other singularity spell for more range
Hey there! Very Pleased with the build so far, and have used it to push my current personal bests :D. My question for you is have you have done some testing with the arcane orbit build? Due to the nature of Wizard spells is it possible to modify it to make it stronger for us console users? I wonder if it can compare. Thanks again for the build!
@ Puxo
I actually first envisioned this build as fire, but it ended up having more survivability and damage as Arcane; the Raging Storm rune is about 40% ahead of anything fire was able to dish out. It is also causes much less lag in very high density.
Outside of cubing the Valthek's Rebuke staff, there really is no reliable way to damage ranged targets with Energy Twister, so Spectral Blades: Barrier Blades was the best Primary skill with the best item support for generating the most AP. That said, Shock Pulse: Piercing orb is likely the next best choice if you don't mind losing some survivability for the extra range. Cubing The Furnace or Primordial Soul is probably the best option if you don't plan on using Spectral Blades at all.
@ Shadow2400
I haven't really messed with Arcane Orb at all, as Twister + Ranslor's has been by favorite wizard build since 2.2 del-rasha wizard. i suppose i could give it a go to just to see how it compares though.
Not saying he is legit or not, but I and the people I play with on console play 100% legit and having lvl 80 gems is pretty easy at this point. I've cleared 85 (without any augmentation paragon 1170) and people I know have cleared 89 using variations of the build.
I honestly haven't given AD much of a chance in solo; i always end up with 2-3 fewer sword stacks than when using AS. Perhaps AD might be better than the extra 2-3 sword stacks, but i honestly couldn't say.
The Arcane Orbit build seemed to be a lot less squishy, since it could cube Aquila Cuirass and wear ADP, and might be the better hard core option anyhow. I ended up being able to clear 80 just fine with 3min left with no AO damage and only 110% AD. it is a good build; i just don't like it. To each their own.
Currently working on 95+ group clears (Sup Bab, Buff Doctor, 2 DPS) to level my gems to 100 and slowly replace my lvl 80 enchants with 90+ ones. I might try to solo push some more after that.
This is the build I'm using in groups most of the time.
Beat 90 last night with over 2 minites to spare. Second floor was goats/unburied on caverns of arranae and i managed to get about 65% progress in 3 mins. Spawned Blighter as the guardian but had a shield pylon so between Delsere belt and FoD i could stck Stricken up ridiculously fast. Shield wore off with a little over a third pf his life left but i managed to only die once finishing him off.
Dont discount area damage for solo, i'm running about 115% and i could roll vit off the gloves or source for it. Iwould prioritize it over IAS rolls since with fragment and dels belt you can maintain almost full AP most times. Getting your ranslor pull to proc on high threat elites will just burn them down fast with the area damage from the trash. I also run APDs over Primus because you can become almost unkillable in density. My twisted sword is 143% with 7ias and AD a little over 2900 damage. Paragon 1276 and i am running with only 4 augments between 75 and 80, i have a lot of room to improve my gear. My trapped and Stricken are both 96 and my Eso is only 90 so im going to prioritize leveling that for now.
For 90+, unless you have a shield pylon, i think Saxtris/Hamlin or maybe Bome Warlock are the only bosses you can reliably kill. Their add spawns make your APDs give you insane toughness.
All in all this is one of the most fun and effective solo builds ive ever played and os really quite fun to push with.
After playing with it some more i have indeed decided to update the build to use Area Damage on Rings, Gloves and Shoulders maxing it out at 130%.
20% AD on Source over 3-4 APoC might be viable with globe support, Power Hungary and Reapers Raps, but i feel APoC it is mandatory for solo play. Spamming ET consumes AP faster than Shame of Delsere can generate even with a flawless roll.
24% AD might be better than 10% damage on weapon group play, couldn't say. I still stand by LoH for solo play though. Spectral Blades' attack speed lets you tank almost anything outside the nastiest of affix combos.
I will respectfully disagree with ADP over Crown in cube, and still prefer to have all 5 runes on Slow Time than a bunch of extra toughness. Even without ADP I'm already practically immortal when actually fighting trash except on nastiest of elite packs. Perhaps with a non LoH weapon, ADP might be more useful. I suppose it comes down to preference/luck, and weather or not you feel 16-24% AD or 6-10% Damage on weapon is better than the 15% bonus damage, 10% attack speed and the 5 sec stun provided by Crown.
My sword rolled natural AD so i rolled the 7ias onto it however i would ideally like the LOH roll for solo, seems like a natural fit and the build lacks sustain. Thats why i like APDs but single target it doesnt matter at all.
I rolled vit onto my source but it has APoC on it as well, if i find a LoH sword id roll the vit on source to AD. I tried Primus at first but the stuns made grouping tougher as a whole and the additive damage wasnt making much of a difference, the IAS was nice though. But thats just personal preference. If anything i would run the new Blood Bracers in thr cube as that makes the endless blades spam much more potent on single target fights. However without any type of sustain it wasnt working so well much past 85.
Just what I was looking for, awesome job!
I'm playing on the ps4. Tried the archon build for 2.4.1 and for some reason that build was crap on ps4. I'm gearing up for this build currently and just wanted to know for 2.4.1 on the ps4 what do you guys think will be better this set-up or running the new tal rasha energy twister build that the new patch has brought?
Updated build for 2.4.1: Updated Video
I have completed a GR 90 with 6+ min left with only these changes. I'm now paragon 1300ish with level 80-90 Enchants. Legendary gems are 90-93. New Video coming soon.
A Tal Rasha build could potentially put out more damage with far less toughness; working one collecting gear with relevant rolls and will report back.
Edit:
I have tried the Tal Rasha build, and am not liking how squishy it is or it's alarming lack of AP, it could be preferable in group play though.
Have since cleared GR 95 and updated the guide video, you can find it here.
I am only seeing dmg numbers in the 120 bill range, never anything close to this 3 trillion craziness, I have about 2300dps and 73 million toughness (I run esoteric instead of bop), how did you get the damage so high, right now I can run low 80's
Kinda confused with the set as I'm not that pro on name list of items.
What is the updated set of this build etc?
Ty..
I managed GR 90 and 91 with this build, without any augments.
You can see a video of the GR 90 completion here (show all the gear at the end):
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QT653J08FBo
Do you have ~+40% Arcane dmg and ~+45% Energy twister dmg?
How many attacks per second can you perform. The Sword does say that it limits to 8 twisters, but from what I understand, it's still unlimited. So ias in this case would still produce more dmg if you can push into a higher bracket. You can find the table for ias and Twisters here: https://www.reddit.com/r/Diablo/comments/42figq/energy_twister_mechanics_explained/
I also use esoteric because I am a glass cannon otherwise. If there was enough INT gained from augments to put you over a certain all resist, I can see using Pane of the Powerful instead. That does give a whopping 35% more dmg to elites, which are difficult to kill.
There is an unfortunate connection between survivability and dmg in this build, since the number of twisters you are able to put out directly affects the dmg of each. So you have to sit in the same place and make sure you go through the full 11-12 twister casts for get each of them to do good dmg. I try to use corners as much as possible to trap the twister and make it tick on the same location.
Well... 2.4.2 is out aaand so is this build.
Sword was nerffed pretty significantly. Time to play some monk.
