Build Guide
This build is from the PS4 version of the game, and evolved as a result of a new unofficial leader board set up specifically for console gamers who want to compete and compare their efforts and progression with other players on an even playing field. I compete in the Legit Solo Demon Hunter division and just grabbed 1st place using this build by completing Greater Rift 55 (included on Youtube link).
I regard it as a variation on the standard Fire Multishot Unhallowed Essence but it has some very specific gear requirements which in my personal opinion, makes it one of the strongest builds of this type. In fact I suspect it is actually quite close in strength to the Blue Balls build, though probably more suited to solo than group play.
An important part of this build is the follower. One of the weakest parts of the Unhallowed build (in solo anyway) is crowd control. Iceblink and Windforce play a big part in slowing things down and pushing things back, but your follower completes the equation with frequent stuns and freezes. I will not cover how to equip your follower here, but there are a number of other posts about how to set him up for crowd control as versus dps) and you really need to do that in order to help this build shine.
The key points to the build are:
Strong resource conservation and regeneration via rcr and Evasive Fire|Focus + Night Stalker
Strong crowd control via Evasive Fire|Focus + Iceblink; Windforce knockbacks; and Templar stuns and freezes
High damage potential against mobs via the synergy of all the combined skills, notably Windforce and strongarms.
The play style for this build is to walk a fine line between pushing forward and backing off, keeping enough safe distance to avoid dangerous affixes while being close enough to do dmaage. Pop wolf as often as you can to maximise the potential of the damage debuff. Pop invigoration after a vaulting spree and before you engage. Pop vengence when you need to deal serious damage in as short a time as possible in order to eliminate threats as fast as possible.
While this is not the strongest build possible for Demon Hunters, I find the playstyle straight forward and simple, while still being engaging.
I prefer vault as my defensive choice and I think it works well with the idea that this build is all about keeping away from danger, but I freely admit Smokescreen|discplacement may be a more effective choice. I just enjoy vault more so that is what I use.
I've had tremendous fun evolving this build as a means to climb the Demon Hunter Legit ladder for solo, which I admit is a very small, but committed group of enthusiasts, so thought I'd share it.
Any questions or constructive criticism/suggestions are welcome.
cheers
