Heavy graphical bug

  • Hello

I'm playing the beta with almost no problem, but every 10 minutes I have a freeze (can be 10 sec or 30 sec) and most of the time after it, I have a huge graphical bug
    Here is a screenshot :

My only option then is to alt tab back to windows, then to the game, I'm then able to play the game with a correct screen.

This is still a big problem, and I'm only having it on DIII.
I updated my CG drivers after that, but I still having the same issue
    I'm using an Nvidia GeForce 9800 GTX+ on Win XP SP3 - i7 2.67GHz with 3go Ram
    CG Drivers version : 6.14.12.8026 (03/08/11)

    Thanks for your help :)
  • Bzorg,

I moved this over from the Bug forum as it looks like a hardware or driver issue rather than an outright bug.

Can you post some information about your computer? You can find this information in the Direct X Diagnostic Tool:

    Click on Start
    Click on Run
Type in: dxdiag (In Vista, type dxdiag in the search field)
    Hit Enter or OK

Click on the Save All Information button at the bottom, and create a dxdiag text file, and copy and paste it all here.

I'd also like to see how hot your video card is getting.

Please download and run HWMonitor from http://www.cpuid.com/downloads/hwmonitor/1.18-setup.exe

Now start the game and let it run several minutes. Then exit or alt-tab out and look at the monitor program. See what the highest temperature is that the gpu reached.

  • Bzorg,

Thanks, the temps are all fine.

Could I get you to revert the video drivers back to Nvidia's release 260.99 and then test the game again?

  • Bzorg,

I'd have to recommend you swap out the video card with something else at this point and see if the symptom changes or goes away. It doesn't have to be the same model card though, just one that will work with the game. It really is doubtful that the game itself is causing this in any way.

It could still be just about anything in the computer though. Power supply, video card needing re-seating, ram, etc...

  • Bzorg,

Try running Furmark in stress test mode. If you see any graphical anomalies there, it's a good sign the cards got a problem.

  • Bzorg,

2 minutes doesn't constitute a very good stress test. It's going to heat the video card up, that's what it's designed to do. We want to see if problems arise after it's been running hotter than it does at idle, such as you'd see when playing a video game.

Let it run Furmark for 10-15 minutes and look for problems. If the card gets too hot though, say 90C or above, you might go ahead and shut it down. The card's fan ought to be kicking into overdrive when that happens though and you'd hear it. It might help a lot if you removed the card and gave it a good cleaning with a can of compressed air. Dust can easily build up in the heatsink and fan assembly that reduces the cooling capability drastically.
