Display driver stopped responding, repeatedly

  • I can play fine for anywhere from 5 to 25 minutes, then inevitably my screen will flicker, and I'll get sent to my desktop for a "display driver has stopped responding and has recovered" message".

The game maximizes itself right afterward, but from then on I'll continually have my desktop show up, sometimes with a diablo cursor, sometimes at my diablo 3 resolution instead of desktop resolution, sometimes both, and sometimes just my regular desktop with a regular cursor. This happens every few minutes. Sometimes when there's a lot of action going on, sometimes while in town idling.

About 2-5 seconds go by, then the game comes back.

Also, another glitch/bug occurred, having the screen go to desktop/display driver stop responding during the king leoric fight, apparently he was killed while I was seeing my desktop, and upon coming back to the game he was stuck in his midair animation, but not exploding.

  • SirToons,

Can you post some information about your computer? You can find this information in the Direct X Diagnostic Tool:

    Click on Start
    Click on Run
Type in: dxdiag (In Vista, type dxdiag in the search field)
    Hit Enter or OK

Click on the Save All Information button at the bottom, and create a dxdiag text file, and copy and paste it all here.

  • SirToons,

Can you try playing the game in windowed mode, and size the window as small as you can? See if it still crashes then.

You might also try reverting to an earlier, non-beta video driver.
